I know there are local ordinances on the transportation of loaded rifles and shotguns, and a lot of municipalities have laws about using them within certain distances from highways, but is there any VA law that restricts the possession of a loaded rifle in a VA park or a National Park?
In other words, could I hike the Virginia part of the AT with a Winchester 1895 slung over my shoulder?

I've been looking for anything specific to carrying long guns for purposes other than hunting, but I'm not finding much. Maybe someone else can give some direction.

Re: Rifles in Parks
Thanks for looking Jay. I went through the code too, even using the quick links provided by the state police and couldn't find anything. But something in the back of my head tells me I'm wrong.

All I'm aware of is COV 18.2-287.4. Open carry of firearms is generally legal here. Just take care not to brandish or run afoul of the game laws...
