Sweet. Are the front and rear sights flip up? Good deal on the 5.56. Means you can shoot that or .223...

Can i ask how much you paid for that? and where did you pick it up...

Did you know that was what you want d before you went in? or was just looking for an AR platform? you chose this over a build project?

and did you have anyother choice of calibre other than 556?
I ask all this as, if things go right, or even partly right with bonus's here at work, then i am going to be in the market for a simlier platform soooooooon..

either way, It is a BEAUTY and thanks for sharing!!!
Be particular, and be vigilant, as the enemy will only attack on two occasions:
When you're ready or when you're not ready.

Also never forget, that everyone who shows up, is not necessarily there to help.

Looking forward to your report and impressions... this is high on my list for an AR! Almost picked one up at the last Chantilly show but the BC's were running way behind and I didn't have the patience to wait.
Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you!

Ok here it goes...

Paid: $1500
Where: A&P Arms in Hampton (he has a really big selection of ARs)

I knew I wanted this one. I have been wanting it since last year. Superior Pawn and Guns had a used one for $1200, but said he would work on the price if I wanted it. Then A&P had the new one for $1500. I posted a thread a little while back asking for opinions on which one to get, but when it came down to it, I decided I wanted the new one.

I want both a 556 and 308, but I just fell in love with the Ruger when I first seen it and watched some videos of it (not to mention all the articles I read on it). So I wanted that one. Now when I go for a 308, I am seriously thinking of building that one. My wife isn't all into guns, so she don't see spending all the money every couple of months, etc. But she is getting there. She keeps asking when I will take her to a range to shoot, but time isn't on my side lately. I have to finish drywalling my man-cave because the new floors are coming in on the 17th.

To the Range report comments: Oh, you better believe I will give a good report. I can't wait to get out there to shoot it. My wife said she didn't like it and when I asked why, she said it looked scary... :hysterical:

great stuff and thank you again for the quick response...

certainly looks like you choose well...

and please let the misses know that we like it when it looks "scary"

and i too am looking at the 308 as i want a bit more UMMMPHHH than a 556 has...and why not hunt deer with it? I was thinking about the R15 in .243 but i also want a calibre that is readily available and common...and will not consider the R series as i understand there is a a number of items that are proprietary on that platform and not interchangeable with the rest of the AR family...and to mwe, it is that HUGE selction of options and gadgets that make it so interesting...

Again, great stuff, thank you!!

I know someone who took a deer this season with a RRA 308. Soft points feed fine.

Thats a nice looking piece.

I have several of the Magpul mags and dont care for them simply because they dont drop when I hit the release button. My AR is my SHFT weapon and I expect that if I ever have to use it for that I'm not going to want to have to pull empties out so I can put another in.

Do yours drop freely or do you have to pull them out?

Thanks. Well, as of right now they drop freely. I put the mags in several times last night and when I hit the button they dropped right out. The first time it caught me off guard because it dropped so fast. But this was empty, I haven't tried it with ammo in them yet.

Yeah, I want something with a bit more ummmphh too, but unfortunately I can't have it all at once, so I will wait. I'm going home next month to Michigan and hope to come back with a nice old one.... My dad has my grandpa's 1898 .30-40 Krag. He doesn't shoot it anymore. It has been just sitting in the corner of his closet for years.

I've got an Eagle Arms AR-15 and the GI mags drop freely, but the MAGPUL empties have to be pulled out. Sounds like yours might have a slightly over sized well. I like the MAGPULs but absolutely hate having to pull out the empties. I want those suckers in the dirt before I hit the button!!!

Good for you. If it drops emtpies freely you should have no prob with full ones.

Thanks. Yeah, she wants to go, I just haven't had time to go anywhere lately. I told her the same thing, that she will want one of her own after she shoots. Any type of gun is too fun not to want one.

Yeah, I don't see any reason to be droppin full ones unless I have too. I prefer to drop just the empty ones, lol.

WOW - I just walked into work and one of my co-worker's (retired Spec Ops guy) had some presents on my desk for me.

He had a bi-pod for me. He said he doesn't like it on his Barrett Rec 7.

Then he had a BSA red-dot for me that has a light and laser attached. Brand new in the box for me. He is single and is always just buying stuff to have. This is it... http://www.bsaoptics.com/scope.aspx?productID=302

I will take pics tonight of them after I get them on.
