And why might gun owners be interested in May's bid to repeal Virginia radar detector ban? Just peruse news reports and pro-gun web site discussion forums about the issue of traffic stops where drivers and passengers are carrying guns and you'll see why...

Wow wow wow is all I can say after I read the complaint against the Roanoke police department: here it is -- http://opencarry.mywowbb.com/attachment.php?id=9515
I honestly cannot (seriously) believe that police right here in VA would actually do that to a law abiding citizen. I sincerely hope they throw the book at them and the victim gets a crap load of money. The descriptive way the victim (and yes he was a victim of LE thuggery if the complaint is true) is a lesson to us all...

I just read the whole complaint... I hope they publicly hang these clowns and have to pay through the nose to this man! All HONEST and LAW ABIDING cops should shun and do all within their power to have these two removed from their ranks. These are the THUGS that give good cops a bad name!

The police making up their own laws on the fly - How convenient.

Wow- just wow...
You know, I totally respect cops for everything they have to put up with and do and it really p's me off when some of them do stuff like this. They don't deserve the badge....

Knuckledraggers like these screw the law enforcement profession as a whole.
Perhaps the Roanoke police academy should add a block of reading comprehension using The Constitution as the material if this represents the caliber of individuals they're hiring.

I really don't think it is a fundamental problem of intelligence as much as it is a problem of that badge getting too heavy. This typically comes from hire screening and training failures, where the officer has not been vetted for motives to be a LEO and not properly indoctrinated to understand his/r role in serving and defending The Constitution versus running amock by imposing his/r own personal will upon the citizenry (i.e. inventing laws at roadside).
While some may consider the plaintiff a rabblerouser, the bottom line is he was defending his rights, like it or not. May Roanoke pay him well enough that this is a forced teachable moment for the city.

Derek, I agree. Merely a take off on the previous "knuckle dragger" comment.
I've known several young men who wanted to be an LEO solely for the ability to carry a badge and a gun. IMO those kind we do not need. I think they need to get back to basics when they teach these kids:
Priority 1 - serve and protect the public - respect/uphold Constitutional and civic rights
Priority 2 - see priority 1
Priority 3 - the public's safety and well being (includes rights) comes first above yours
Rule 1 - If you dont agree with the priorities the door out is over there...

Concur, DK. My knuckledragger factor is equal parts intelligence and maturity. There are lots of folks out there as we can all appreciate are plenty smart, but just don't let it shine through a great deal of maturity.
One problem related to this: it is nearly impossible to get rid of a bad apple after the probationary period. Look at the idiot detective in DC who drew his gun at a snowball fight. He won't get fired.
There is no reason civil servants shouldn't feel a little fear for accountability at work like the folks in the private sector who are actually generating the revenue. While people with kids and houses have been taking pay cuts or losing their jobs all year, I've read repeatedly about police or fire labor associations ready to go down with the ship rather than accept a pay freeze. How about a little reality check?
It seems to all circle back to the maturity to read the situation.
