Welcome aboard jachinorchid.
Please see here: Concealed Handgun Permit - Virginia Requirements
Fill out the form, find something in your service record which indicates that you have "Competence with a firearm" (proof of award of a sharpshooter or expert marksman ribbon should do it). Take the form and your documentation to the local Clerk of Court along with a $50.00 filing fee and you should be all set.
*Note: If you're a Virginia resident, then you will, of course, want a Resident Concealed Handgun Permit. If your "Home of record" is other than Virginia, you may need to get a Non-Resident permit instead.

Welcome from Yorktown! You can apply for your CHP at your local courthouse using your DD214 form. If that isn't enough, Bob's gunshop in Norfolk offers CHP courses several times a week. You can sign up online at their website. It's a good course and cheaper than most of them in the area.
Why wouldn't you hold up the targets for me? It's a 9mm.

A DD-214 is always enough - but active duty members don't have a DD-214 yetfiasconva wrote:You can apply for your CHP at your local courthouse using your DD214 form.

I'm guessing you were in the military more than 30 years ago, right? Either that or thay've changed since I was in from 82-92. They used to give a DD-214 at every enlistment but stopped and only give one at ETS.Dragonfly wrote:You do after a reinlistment, I got three DD-214

I retired in 2001, was in since 1981. I never got a DD214 till I retired.
