From VCDL:
Caroline County members: Caroline County is considering a noise
ordinance that could impinge on lawful shooting in the sparsely
populated county. The ordinance will be up for public comment THIS
TUESDAY, April 28th at 7:30 PM.
The meeting will be in the auditorium of the Community Services
Center, 17722 Richmond Turnpike.
The previous code had a specific decibel level, but the proposed
ordinance leaves it to a more vague "reasonable person" determination.
Hunting is exempted, but not target shooting.
Here is the agenda for Tuesday:

I guess it's time for the gun shops to stock up on suppressors

Then they'll have to find another excuse, like maybe banning lead ammo?

I think Caroline is where Ft. A. P. Hill is, not far from Kings Dominion. I have no idea what the current code says or the full wording of the proposed code but I wonder if this is something that will be like what Chesterfield county did about 15 years ago. In their zeal to stop loud music coming from vehicles they made it illegal for "electronically produced" sound to be audible beyond a certain distance from the source, oops- firetrucks, ambulances, and police cars couldn't legally use their sirens.

Hunting is exempted, but not target shooting
So when does Target season open... You know how hard it is to take down a target? Man it could take hundreds of rounds and then there is what? Sometimes a 10 target bag limit. Man that can make for a hard days hunting.

Re: [VCDL] Caroline County noise ordinance discussed
VCDL issued the alert when Caroline County proposed to restrict
shooting in sparsely populated areas by way of a revised noise
ordinance. Member Sonny reported back on the good news:
"The proposed noise ordinance was dropped this evening [29 April] in
Caroline County.
About 30 people spoke at the public hearing, over 2/3 against, with
many people bringing up the lack of a recreational and target shooting
exemption.
It looks like the county will stick with the current ordinance that
has been on the books for 22 years (and passes constitutional muster)
by purchasing decibel meters for the sheriff's office so they can
enforce it.
There are rarely that many people present at a Caroline County public
hearing and I'm sure the VA-ALERT had much to do with it. Thanks for
sending it out!"
You bet, Sonny. And thanks to you and other members for letting us
know about the proposed ordinance.
