JMU students wear empty gun holsters

Post by allingeneral »

Some James Madison University students believe it's their right to carry a concealed fire-arm on campus. And today those students held a silent protest against the universities rules banning weapons on campus.

Members of the group wore empty holster on their hips. Their point of view: if they are lawfully able to carry a gun in holster in public, then it's their right to carry one on campus.

They hope their empty holsters will help spread their message.

"We're not trying to antagonize people. We're just giving them a chance when they see us to really start a dialogue. It's like hey, why are you wearing that holster. And then you can really start to explain to them, because a lot of people are really mis-informed about concealed carry in general, not just on a college campus," said Kevin Garris, SCCC officer.

Students for Carry and Conceal on Campus is a national organization. There are 38,000 members across the nation. Membership greatly increased after the shooting at Virginia Tech.
