When Evil Walked Among Us

In June 1942, a pair of German saboteur teams landed on the beaches of Long Island, New York and Florida with a mission to disrupt national morale, destroy domestic rail lines, factory power systems and numerous other public areas.

However, before beginning any acts of sabotage in America, these men were discovered burying their uniforms, explosives, and other equipment on the beach. Several items were seized from the teams including a detonator timing unit and two pistols - a .32 Walther PPK and a .32 Mauser Model 1934. These items became part of an informal exhibit in FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover's personal office museum seen only by his friends and office visitors. Shortly before Hoover's death, he gave these items to his executive assistant.

After the terrorist events of September 11, 2001, the assistant's widow decided it was time for this historic material to be given to the National Firearms Museum. The special exhibition at the Nation's Gun Show this weekend will mark the only time these artifacts have ever been exhibited outside the National Firearms Museum's World War II gallery. Come by and see these significant handguns and talk with the museum curators.
