Izaak Walton League, Arlington Fairfax chapter

Post by Cliff »

Anybody a member? Or been there as a guest? Another shooter at Gilberts was telling me about it a few months ago. Looks like a great place from what I see on the website.

I don't know anything about it, but you;re not the first to ask about them. Surely someone on here has some knowledge to share...

From the pics it looks like the ranges are in great shape. Is that actually true? Seriously considering joining. How is it being a member overall?

They just finished re-doing the rifle range (100 yards). I have always had a pleasant experience there.

They have a pistol range alongside the rifle range, a seperate shotgun range, and two fishing ponds. Membership is (I think) 160 the first year, and 100 after that annually.

I go there several times a month. The range usually has a several people shooting, though there certainly is a lot more now days.

Contact them and find out when the next membership meeting is, I recommend the place.

Heck, I might even see you there sometime.

Thank for the info. I think I will be joining in the next month or so. I look just like my avatar. By all means, come on over and introduce yourself.

If you want to join, there is a waiting list you have to get on by attending the Prospective Member Orientation Class (PMOC). The first class was held March 7 while the next class is April 2, starting at 7PM. The cost to join is $320 for family or $245 for an individual.

You would need to go to the Izaak Walton League site and contact the membership chairman for details.

The membership is capped at 2400 members so you will have to wait until they determine how many openings are available. There are about 40 people waiting from last years PMOC.

i know wayne, one of the guys who occasionally does range duties over there. i used to be a member in the mid 90s and should've never let it expire. NOVA sharpshooters used to shoot there weather permitting, but i don't even think that smallbore club is around anymore.

I did shoot there in the 90s also. It is not a bad place to shoot rifles. I am on the waiting list for this year...
