Researching using serial numbers

Post by viiiball »

As some of you may have seen I inherited quite a decent collection of firearms when my uncle passed away. Does anyone know how I would go about doing research on these various firearms based on serial number? For example, I'd love to know year manufactured, EXACT model and whatever other info might be available.

Thanks

I know S&W has a program through their Customer Service department to research the history of your weapons. I would assume that other manufacturers would do the same. Here's the link to S&W request form.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I have spent most of the evening combing manufacturer web sites or sending them emails requesting info.

No problem. Hey, if we gave a correct answer does that mean we get a free gun...

Seriously, hope it helped. If you need more just google "gun serial number" [without the quotes] and you should get plenty of results that will help near the top of the list.

I would rather carry a gun every day and never need it. Then not have one when needed
