The Police Shooting in Alexandria

Post by HostileApostle »

I've checked online news sources for more info regarding the shooting along Rt.1 in Alexandria last week, but details regarding the shooting have been sketchy at best. I live a few miles south of where it took place, and anyone that lives in that area should not be surprised to hear this happened. Anyone have more info???

ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Fairfax County Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that left one man dead on Friday.

It happened along Route 1 near Fort Hunt Road in Alexandria. Police say the whole incident began with a traffic stop.

Police say an officer responded to a call for a traffic stop on Route 1 and Fort Hunt Road around 12:30 p.m. They say during that traffic stop, a police officer fired his weapon and shot a person involved in the traffic stop.

"At this point, we don't know why the traffic stop initiated," said Officer Bud Walker of the Fairfax County Police Department. "The officer is being interviewed by detectives. Hopefully we'll know more soon."

That person, an adult male, later died at the hospital. It's not yet known how many shots were fired or what prompted it. It's also not clear why the SUV involved in the traffic stop ended up about a half mile down the road where it hit a car.

The woman who was in that car works at a nearby Hampton Inn, and she is said to be doing fine.

A number of people in a nearby office building witnessed the incident.

"I heard this noise, saw the car coming down the road," said Joe Williams, a witness. "(It) hit this car and I came out to help."

Animal control was also called to the scene because one of the vehicles had dogs inside.

The name of the driver has not been released, nor has any other information about him. The SUV has a specialized plate for Special Forces Association, and it displaced a handicapped placard. It's not known if the vehicle belonged to the man who was driving it.

Police say anyone with information about the incident or anyone who may have witnessed it should call them.

The incident is still under investigation.

Throughout the rush hour Friday night, traffic around the area was a nightmare. Route 1 was shut down from Huntington Road to the Beltway while the investigation continued.

The only update so far. The report is dated November 18. From the Fairfax County Police website (emphasis added):
A thorough and professional investigation is underway into the officer-involved shooting on November 13, 2009. Any investigation of this nature typically requires interviewing large numbers of witnesses, collecting and processing forensic evidence, and conducting lab tests and this case is no exception. Preliminary results, however, indicate no gun was found inside Master’s car.

All three of the primary officers involved in this incident have now been interviewed as part of the criminal investigation. Two officers spoke to investigators on Friday and the third set up and kept an appointment on Tuesday.

Two officers have returned to normal duties. The third officer will be on restricted or administrative duties when he returns to work next week.

No further release of information about this incident is anticipated until after completion of the criminal and internal investigations.
I won't speculate since I only know what I do from what I read in the media. Emphasis is only to point out what I thought to be the highlights.
