looking for other female gunowners in Harrisonburg!

Post by cari11 »

Hello, I'm 21 years old and just got my first pistol, a sweet little s & w double-action .22 revolver. I'm a female looking for other females in the Harrisonburg area who carry. Haven't gotten my carry permit yet but have already taken the class so I just have to apply for it. I've been around guns my entire life and participated in shooting sports when I was younger. Unfortunately, as a student and eventually as a nurse I'm afraid I won't be allowed to carry very much. I'd like to check out a range near Harrisonburg where I can practice. Right now I only practice when I visit my parents in Winchester.
All I've got right now is an outside the waistband holster but I'd like to know how other women carry their pistols so I can decide what I want to try.
I'd really like to be able to chat with other females and young people in the area, but I'll talk to anybody in Hburg who's in the know about goings-on and good places to practice or buy shooting gear here.

There is an indoor range in H'burg called Top Gun. It is out in the Pleasant Valley area. Phone # 540-434-8999 (I think that's the #) It's been a little while since I was there, but it was $10 an hour to shoot.

As for buying in Harrisonburg, about the only good place is Valley Heritage. Stay away from Hunter's Paradise, (VERY overpriced!) and stay away from Runions. (bad attitudes, and they don't appreciate your business) There are a couple of good places in Augusta county.. Dominion Outdoors, Nuckles, and the Gun Shack are my favorites.

Hope this helps!

Welcome!! Another good range is just over the Shenandoah mountain in WV, just before you get to Brandywine rec area on the right, Rt. 33W. Its about a 30-40 minute drive. I went up there last Sunday and it was closed due to vandalism/trash, better call the US Forest Service before you go to be sure its open...I just don't understand the people that would shoot up a nice range that is open to the public!!
