Walther firearms?

I've been really interested in them recently. They seem really ergonomic and the blowback technology appeals. Do any of you have one? Thoughts? I'm dying to shoot one, even though I'm happy with my others...

Depends on what model you are looking at. I know the old PPK's are great for what they are intended, can be a tack driver in the right hands or exactly the opposite. Also have a different feel versus other compact's but have a few nice features which are good for ccw, a small but feelable loaded chamber indicator, safety also decocks it, and a smooth profile.

I just picked up a PPQ yesterday... All I can say is that I should've bought one back in 2011 when I first held one. Best striker fired trigger hands down. Best kept secret in the world of firearms.

I have two - P99 QA and PPS, both in 9mm.

I decided on the P99 after trying several different pistols - Glock 17 and 19, Sig p229 and p239, Ruger P95 to name a few. While I really liked the Sigs (and still do) their price tag was outside of my budget for a pistol that I planned to train, shoot and carry. To me it melded the better parts of a Glock (striker fired, nice trigger) with a better grip for my hand. The mag release was different, but it didn't take long, maybe two range training sessions, to convert this 1911-button presser to a trigger-finger lever-pusher.

The PPS replaced my old summer/deep conceal pistol, a Bersa .380 . My big reasons for changing over to the PPS was for consistency - trigger pull is similar if not the same, mag release is the same. The Bersa was also the only thing I had that shot .380, so one less caliber to stock.

I have shot a PPK/s before and wasn't that thrilled - thus the reason I ended up with the Bersa initially.

I have shot a few P22s and have never had an issue, however, I know of plenty of folks that have had problems with them being quite finicky with ammo.

While I have never needed support, I have heard it is quite excellent (and may be still handled by S&W?).

As of late, Walther firearms is now located in Fort Smith AR. So no more S&W middle to go through as I understand it now. Good job moving away from bersa and the .380 btw..

I'll pass. That trigger guard mag release is the dumbest thing I've ever seen, and its not intuitive.

Once you get used to it, it works fantastic.. No need in shifting hand positions to drop a mag. No worry about an accidental mag release, if you primary side isn't working well you will have no problem switching to the reactionary side and using the mag release. I felt the same way until I was given an H&K P2000. I'm almost on the cusp of preferring it over a side release.

That was actually a hard parting. Having a friend that defended himself successfully with a .380 snapped me out of the ".380 sucks" club. And that Bersa had the sweetest DA trigger pull when compared to the PPK. That said, the controls were completely different - DA/SA, mag-release button - and that stuff comes out in live-fire training. Hated to see it go, but I do love my PPS.

Trust me, I shared the same mentality and thought I had made a huge mistake buying the P99... at first. It was during a class I took where the trainer (who had the same Walther) showed me the benefits. Took me about 50 rounds to start changing mags as fast as I did on the 1911 or other button-release pistols. He helped me realize that even on the 1911 I grew up shooting I had to alter my grip on the gun to change mags.

I like the PPQ but the P99 is the best of the design. (PPQ is an updated p99)

I've had several Walthers but the PPQ was the easiest to to get rid of. I sheared the rear sight off within a month of carrying and training with it.

My relationship with Walther now is just buying the collector guns.

A little off topic but Smith&Wesson really screwed Walther over on the import, sales and especially warranty service.


I heard a rumor that the PPQ was being made in the Umarex building down the road from the main Walther facility. That doesn't exactly give me a warm and fuzzy. It may be not true so double check if your worried.

The PPK/S can be ammo sensitive so check before you buy quantity.
