1. Mack Elliott, VCDL's Treasurer - RIP
**************************************************
It is with very great sadness that I must report that Mack Elliott,
VCDL's treasurer and VCDL-PAC Chairman, died Thursday morning from
complications due to knee-replacement surgery.
Mack was a cornerstone of this organization, a wonderful friend, and a
patriot. To say that he will be greatly missed is a massive
understatement.
Services are expected to be Monday, but I will post another alert as
soon as I have the time and location of the service for those who wish
to pay their final respects.
**************************************************
2. VCDL meeting in Tidewater on Monday
**************************************************
Jeff McWaters, candidate for the 8th Senate District (vacated by
Sheriff-elect Kenneth Stolle), will be making a presentation to
Tidewater VCDL members on Monday, the 23rd of November, between 7:30
and 9 PM. Fellowship starts at 7 PM.
Board member John Fenter will be running the meeting, which will be
held at the Princess Anne area library at 1444 Nimmo Pkwy.
Members who live in the 8th District are particularly invited, but
anyone from the area is welcome to attend. (Food and drink are
allowed. The room has a seating capacity of 30.)
**************************************************
3. Dickenson County not issuing temporary permits - issue should now
be resolved
**************************************************
I had a report that the Dickenson County Circuit Court Clerk, Richard
W. Edwards, was not issuing temporary permits when permit approval
exceeded the 45-day limit.
I called Mr. Edwards and we spent some time on the phone. He said
that permits were typically taking 60 to 90 days to issue, due to the
judge not signing off on them in a timely fashion. Mr. Edwards was
not aware that he was supposed to issue temporary permits (which do
not require approval by the judge, BTW) after 45 days.
I pointed him to the code section (18.2-308 D) and he said he would
correct his procedures as soon as his deputy clerk returns from
vacation in a week or so.
If you live in Dickenson County or have any gun owning friends that
do, let me know permits are being issued on time and if not, if
temporary permits are being issued on time.
**************************************************
4. Sussex County backs down on shooting range infringement for now
**************************************************
About 25 gun owners showed up at the Sussex Board of Supervisors
meeting tonight. Everyone who spoke, spoke in opposition to the
proposed ordinance that would require special use permits for shooting
ranges.
Many of the Board did not seem enthusiastic about the ordinance. In
the end they rejected the wording defining what a pistol range was and
sent the issue back to the planning commission.
We may have to go out there one more time in the future for the whole
concept to be put to rest, but I think if we keep the pressure up, the
proposed ordinance will be defeated.
**************************************************
5. Gun shows and events!

your time at our area events, where we recruit new activists and keep
gun owners informed. No experience necessary; if it's your first time

Re: VA-ALERT: VCDL mini-update 11/20/09
Out of curiosity, has the VCDL ever mentioned vagunforum.net? I appreciate the VA-Alert's, but it seems that VA gun owners benefit from having a place to chit-chat on the Internet, and what better place is there for that than this forum.
Maybe the VCDL could put a blurb at the bottom of their VA-Alerts stating that vagunforum.net is an unaffiliated Internet forum where Virginia gun owners and activists can find cyber fellowship.
Just a thought.

I did throw that against the wall once, but it didn't stick. They do seem to have more of a presence on opencarry.org
