Buy Ballistic Chronograph in NOVA/Stafford?

Post by MarcSpaz »

Hey folks. Does anyone in or around Prince William County know a local store I can buy a new ballistic chronograph?

I am looking for a one that is accurate within 0.25% or better. $150 or less is good. I have been looking at the "Caldwell Ballistic Precision Chronograph"... but I am open to recommendations from those with firsthand experience for a product of equal or better quality (accuracy/dependability/durability/functions/etc.).

I have a magneto speed V1 that I would sell at or below that price.

The unit clips onto the barrel. so nothing down range, which makes it very easy to use on public, or indoor ranges.

I have a CED unit with 2 sky screens. I like this quite a bit, but it goes down range, and is subject to bullet impact. I'd also sell that unit bun not sure on a price right now.

The CED's work well, are accurate enough, and are one of the better sky screen units. The magneto speed is my favorite so far, but it can be a bit fiddly to get attached to the barrel, and tuned to read the projectile.

If i was to go out today to buy a new unit, it would probably be a new magneto speed, or a lab radar unit.

I was looking at the CED. The accuracy was 1% compared to the 0.25% of the Caldwell. I may stay away from the CED.

The Magneto Speed V1 looks nice, but I can't find accuracy specs on it, it doesn't clear my muzzle brake and won't fit on my can. The V3 looks like it will fit, and it does have the accuracy I am looking for, but $400 is a bit more than I would like to spend. Big benefit of the Magneto Speed is, its not 15 feet down range.

I found the Caldwell Ballistic Precision Chronograph at a Cabela's in Gainsville. I'll give it a go tomorrow and see how well it does.
