[VCDL] ABC's 20/20 Reports on Guns

Post by allingeneral »

A hit piece on guns tomorrow night on ABC's 20/20?
*************************************************

ABC's 20/20 is having what sounds like a hit-piece on guns tomorrow
night. They are keeping the lie alive that there is some kind of
legal loophole that can only be found at gun shows. Very poor
reporting on ABC's part.

And it looks like they are still trying to blame gun shows for what
happened at Virginia Tech.

It just makes my head hurt.

Here is the argument on gun shows with just a few words changed to
show the absurdity:

"We need to make it harder to get a drivers license because John was
killed by a drunk driver."

"But, why? That drunk didn't have a license."

"But he COULD have had a license!"

After Binghamton, Questions Linger About Easy Access to Guns
Battle Over Access to Guns Renews After Shootings in New York,
Pennsylvania
By CHRIS STRATHMANN and SARAH NETTER

April 6, 2009—

As the nation gets a clearer picture of two killers who have made
headlines in recent days -- one near Pittsburgh, one in Binghamton,
N.Y. -- some are wondering whether Americans have too much access to
guns.

Watch the "20/20" special on "If I Only Had a Gun" Friday at 10 p.m. ET

This morning, Shirley DeLucia is recovering from gunshot wounds in a
New York hospital. Hailed as one of the heroes of Friday's massacre in
Binghamton, DeLucia called police after being shot along with another
receptionist who was killed.

Doctors say she should make a full physical recovery, but her brother,
Lyle Fasset, said the emotional impact could take its toll for a long
time to come.

"I think she's going to have a few problems," he said, adding that she
worried about paying the bills the last time he visited her in the
hospital.

As the gunman, identified as 41-year-old Jiverly Voong, blasted his
way through the American Civic Association, DeLucia, 61, stayed on the
phone for 38 minutes, guiding police and trying to provide them with
information to prevent more people from being shot. Voong killed 13
people before turning the gun on himself.

"We're always there for her," Fasset said. "Chances are she's not
going to ask for help. That's the kind of person she is."

On Saturday, one day after the Binghamton shootings, three Pittsburgh-
area police officers were gunned down after responding to what they
thought was a domestic disturbance call. Richard Poplawski, 23, the
alleged shooter, was shot several times in the leg.

Police responded after his mother called 911 concerning an argument
over a urinating dog. When the first two officers arrived, she opened
the door, not knowing her son was standing behind her with an AK-47
assault-style rifle.

Police say he also had a .22-caliber rifle and a revolver and was
wearing a bulletproof vest.

His close friend told ABC News that Poplawski had long feared losing
his right to own guns.

"They were all legal," his friend Edward Perkovic said of the weapons.
"He had about four guns. I've been in houses where they have gun cases
with 20 guns. He had a small, small amount of guns."

"We have 32 people being murdered by guns every day in this country,"
said Michael Wolkowitz, a board member of the Brady Center, which
lobbies for tighter gun restrictions. "If peanut butter or pistachio
nuts or spinach killed that number of people once in one day, they'd
be pulled by the [Food and Drug Administration]."

Purchasing a Gun, No Questions Asked

In the last month, seven U.S. shootings have killed 48 people.

Investigators believe Voong was an isolated man who couldn't find
work. Authorities said that people had been making fun of him and his
inability to speak English and that he had made weekly visits to a gun
range.

While the Constitution protects Americans' right to own guns, do laws
make it too easy for potentially dangerous people to own firearms?

This weekend's mass shootings come nearly two years after the massacre
at Virginia Tech and two years after the Virginia governor and
authorities urged lawmakers to close what's called the gun show
"loophole," where customers can buy guns, no questions asked.

For more than a year, ABC News has followed Omar Samaha, whose sister,
Reema, was among the students killed at Virginia Tech. His quest now
is to keep authorities to their word.

When ABC News traveled with Samaha to a gun show in Richmond, Va., he
had about $5,000 in cash and one hour to see what he could buy.

He was approached by a seller before he even made it inside the door.
Samaha was able to buy a gun -- a Glock-- no questions asked.

It was a purchase that chilled him. It was the same kind of gun used
to kill his sister and 31 others at Virginia Tech.

Private sellers at gun shows in Virginia are not required to conduct
background checks. It's a loophole that exists in 33 states.

Gun rights groups argue that the Virginia Tech shooter bought his
weapons at a gun shop, not at a show, and that they shouldn't be held
responsible for background checks that didn't work.

They say their privacy rights -- and business -- could be hurt, if the
loophole is closed.

CBS is taking the same approach, like that's a surprise. I read the transcript of Katie Couric's recent interview with Eric Holder, think the actual interview was on the 7th or 8th, and she kept asking about "unlicensed dealers" at gun shows. What the hell is an "unlicensed dealer"? Either you are a FFL holder or it's a private sale that can be completed with or without a gun show. Bunch of idiots.

"They were all legal," his friend Edward Perkovic said of the weapons.
"He had about four guns. I've been in houses where they have gun cases
with 20 guns.
He had a small, small amount of guns."

What difference does this make? Is it a measure of how apt one is to use the guns illegally? If so I think some of us are in trouble.

20/20 has always been just a tad one sided when it comes to guns. Too bad they don't report facts. I wonder if Omar Samaha is going to be at the next gun show with alot of cash? I could hook the idiot up with a AR for about 3K.

So, how many people die in car crashes every day? Maybe we should ban cars!!
www.nhtsa.dot.gov wrote:NHTSA estimated that 37,313 people were killed in motor vehicle traffic crashes in 2008.
That's more than 102 people per day killed by automobiles - Now that I've looked this up, I think we should definitely ban cars!

The liberals are clearly not concerned about saving the lives of their fellow Americans. If they were, we wouldn't have this statistic....
Each year about 443,000 people in the United States die from illnesses related to cigarette smoking. Cigarettes kill more Americans than alcohol, car accidents, suicide, AIDS, homicide, and illegal drugs combined.
Seems that they are just fine with this one, as long as they can fill their coffers with even more tax revenue. Maybe they can direct some of their new found concern for the citizens of Mexico to the taxpayers of this country. But no, it's just another excuse to further their own anti-gun agenda.

Even our founding fathers realized that there would come a time when they would have to put down their pen and pickup a rifle. I hope it never comes to that for us.

I hope so too Jay, but it sure looks like that time is getting closer.

Anything that NBC/ABC/CBS does might as well be scripted Liberal Propaganda.

Its so much easier for 20/20 to run a report on shady gun sales at gun shows than show
the countless lives saved by armed citizens with guns. I suppose the "Truth" doesn't sell
commercial time like a lie.

HOLLYWOOD - The Hollywood man who intervened with deadly force in a Burger King robbery last week is in good spirits as he recovers from gunshot wounds, a neighbor said today.

John Landers, 45, was shot repeatedly Tuesday afternoon when he confronted a robber at a Burger King on Biscayne Boulevard at Northeast 54th Street, Miami police said. Landers, who was armed and had a concealed weapons permit, exchanged gunfire with the assailant, Johnny Jean-Baptiste, 18, who died in the shootout, police said.

I have no faith at all in the main stream media telling the truth about anything, let alone firearms.

it seams to me every story has a liberal slant, I don't trust them. I get my news off the internet and the satellite news programs.

I haven't watched the alphabet network news in years.

The media is absolutely crazy. The liberals in California and New York spin things up however they see fit, and John and Jane Doe sit in front of the TV every night and believe every word of it. I watch FoxNews Channel - Hannity and O'Reilly have their acts together and hold feet to the fire. FoxNews is really the only channel I know of that is competing with the liberal media - that's a lot of competition.

That 20/20 report was very bias on several levels. First they try to argue that having a gun doesn't do you any good
in a situation where some gunman bursts into a classroom to shoot up everybody. They should people scrambling in
a mock session and a sample person with a concealed firearm struggling to get their gun out and shoot back.
I'll hand it to them, a stressful situation will yield similar results for most. But what the story line fails to address
is would you rather have a chance in that situation with a gun by your side? Or would you rather just everybody remain
unarmed and to take your chances scrambling around the room with a gunman shooting and everybody running for the
same exit? lol

The 20/20 sets up leftist leaning scenarios to make you think having a gun would be of no use to you, so why have it all.
Its a completely wrong mindset to be sending out to the public. They also touched on situations of poorly locked up firearms
that children have access too. They plant unload firearms in places where children are playing and they everybody acts surprised
when the kids start shooting the guns at one another. I mean, give me a break. Its like putting a tasty cupcake in front of a
kid and then being surprised when they eat it. lol

More liberal propaganda.

Agree with you strongly on the bias of that peice, but its that kind of garbage that draws veiwers ,, The more shock value the better to them,, I would bet that a room full of cops couldnlt react any better or faster to that type of attack. One thing that disturbs me is how the main stream media with the exception of Fox News ignores the other side of the arguement ,,, Worse, is that they don't just do it with guns its every thing else going on too,,, Seen or heard anything negative about Obama and his crowd lately on the major networks,,, The tea party thing is being played down in the press and TV,, I swear the new "Guvment" is threatening these outlets with something to cause it,, Libs love control of things and the media is a great thing to control if you can,,,

That is so true. Liberals have this grand idealism of a Utopia they are trying to create. The only problem with
creating Utopias, is that you need everybody to agree on what Utopia should consist of. In there world, Utopia
means no guns. So the only way to rid guns from their Utopian ideals is to try and wipe it out of existence
through propaganda. They are losing the legal fight in the courts, so plan B is to fight out the issue in the court
of public opinion. Show rig'd scenarios of children playing with guns, pointing them at themselves, other kids, etc,
then through in blurbs about there being 250/million guns in America, Trade Show loopholes, and create a sense that
anybody with a gun just leaves it lying around for children to find so they can raise the dander of the public to get
laws passed and/or anti-gun legislators elected.
