What is needed is a front line deterrent to gun violence in these school gun free zones and that deterrent are the schools staff and the teachers who are there during those critical seconds.
.
Now I’m not saying that we need to make our schools an armed camp with a large number of armed people all over the place, but something needs to be changed, because our children and grandchildren are our future and we need to do everything in our power to protect them, no matter what.
.
The school staff and teachers who want to volunteer to obtain gun training and show their proficiency in the correct use of a gun to obtain their concealed carry permit, is needed, now more than ever.
.
Since the 1990’s, the percentage of gun violence in relation to massive casualties in gun free zones is 98%. That just shows you that criminals who want to kill people are going to go to these gun free zones, which are target rich environments.

I don't know if that 98% number is right. I am only aware of two mass shootings that occurred somewhere people were allowed to have guns. One was a police department in PA and the other was a police department in Cali...
Are there others that I haven't heard of?

In the recent school shooting in Florida using a time-line from the time the first round was fired til the LE arrived it was something like 4 minutes. During that time there were 6 people shot. And since you can only fight a gun with a gun there seems only 1 answer -- get someone armed on campus.
I posted this on a couple other forums.

The considerations of responses range from total gun confiscation to doing nothing. When gun control is not applied many libs feel "do nothing" was the pick.
Time is a key issue. From the moment the first round is fired there are NOT minutes to take actions. The time to act already began.
If law enforcement is minutes away there is only 1 solution -- someone in the school must be armed. Who should that be?
There are a couple options to whom to arm.
- A LEO could be assigned to a school (Someone who will pursue the shooter not run the other way or wait)
- A retired veteran possibly a volunteer
- Armed teachers -- these must be selected based on desire to accept the additional responsibility and must be trained
- Alarm buttons in every classroom -- used to lock the doors, sound an alarm, force school lockdown and notify the local LE
- Some kind of 2-way verbal communications activated by the alarm button from the classroom to allow a teacher to notify what is know at that instant
- If there are multiple floors in a building there should be some defense on every floor
- A process map to guide everyone when a situation like this occurs -- every student should have at least brief knowledge and should be practiced like the old fire drills
There are always those who fear guns so much they claim to shake at the sight. Sorry -- you need to pick some defense or the kids die.
If the LE is minutes away you must move the defense to the premises -- arm those who want to carry on school grounds.
