Seriously... how do you get over the sentimentality...

Post by Reverenddel »

... to sell a weapon?

I have things that just are not being used. I could part with a few without hesitation, but I keep thinking back to the "AWB of 94", and how close we came to Hillary this time, and it makes me hesitate!

Me? I don't. But, then, sentimentality is what has recently filled my house and garage.

I guess it boils down to available storage space, financial needs, and possibly what you want and have vs. what you need and don't have.

I suppose that selling weaponry of sentimental value to good friends, who you know will appreciate and take care of them, helps, too. That way, you feel like the item went to a good home, instead of feeling like you just sold the spirit of your ancestors off to the highest bidder.

Sell them to a friend, and you can hug them again when you meet.

having just got hit with a financial problem that caused me to need to liquidate nearly all of my holdings....

you first sell what is current production, and readily replaceable.
glocks, rem700's, ruger americans etc..

next tier was the 'its not collectable' but I've not shot it in 5+ years.

next was multiples... do I really need 4 desert eagles...?

after this level it started getting a bit tougher.

I'm a minimalist. I have what I think I need, but still need to upgrade a few things to the next level. A Mossberg 960 JM Special is on my list, as are full-sized 9mm and 45 ACP pistols. If I collect too much stuff, when I should be bugging out I'll be sitting there trying to figure out what I don't want to leave behind! This way the decision is made for me!

My opinion... if you have something you know you're going to regret selling, regardless of the reason, don't sell it. I have 2 rifles that I will never sell. My father in-law passed them on to me and they are a keepsake that I would love see get passed on generation to generation. I would regret letting those go.

With those two exceptions, everything else I have serves a purpose. Feed my family. Defend my family. Defend my Nation. If I find that something I have doesn't work optimally for me as part of one of those three categories, its gone.

I do have some redundancy... but that is exclusively so I can arm my son or a reliable friend, as well as having a spare in the even that my primary weapon fails or needs service, etc.
