A friend of mine's dad is gonna pass... and unfortunately. Mom isn't doing well. She's fighting the darkness, but if she lives, it's through faith.
A conversation occurred, and it's too good to not pass along. Some are going through what we're going through. It could help:
Me: I knew Pop was sick, but he never said anything, and I never had an affirmation. He just ....died.
I think that's the better way to go.
Oh yeah! I've thought about taking up cigars, and bourbon.
Just to expedite to Valhalla.
Friend:“One should never hasten to their doom, because you cannot. Your end, like wizards, arrive exactly when they intend to and not a minute sooner.”
Me: Very smooth.
Then I will enjoy the fine alcohol.
Enjoy the smooth backsides of younger women. Touched or not.
I will love the smell of fresh spent gunpowder.
the Ringing in my ears of loud music
And the fullness of a good meal.
My circle is small, but well trained, well armed, and well bred.
God forbid someone pressed my circle... Lo onto those who(expletive) with old men...
We will take your gold, liquor, and women, and brazenly laugh your souls into hell
And when I die, I will have no regrets, except the party is over, and I will have a new journey to make, and in it? Live with a newness.

I took up cigars, long ago, when I was about 15. No regrets on that, though TBH hates them.
I've also taken to keeping a good single malt around the house. I enjoy it, from time to time, but TBH hates that, too.
Thank God, TBH loves guns; not sure if things would have worked out, otherwise.

Also, sorry to hear that your Mom, and your friends Dad, aren't doing well.

Cigars. Great for lighting, holding between your lips/teeth and letting the smoke drift around your heard/face while wading a clear river fishing for smallmouth bass. Does a great job of keeping of keeping the bugs away from your face and out of your eyes/ears.
I watched my dad slowly die from cancer in his mouth/jaw/neck a few years ago. He never smoked a day in his life, or chewed tobacco. That was his fourth and last cancer event after spending a couple years in Vietnam back in the 60's/70's and one year of that being around the cargo planes they used to spray agent orange around the countryside. I remember him talking about the tanks leaking inside the airplane and how, by the end of the day, his boots/socks/feet would be squishy wet with the chemicals that made up agent orange.
Anyway, quick beats the hell out of slowly losing the ability to think, to communicate to get up and move around on your own or to even know who the people around you are as they struggle to take care of you. I know part of that was the pain medicine, but the effect is still bad.
