Rights Restoration

Post by spaghetti »

Hey guys, I tried searching and guess I was using the wrong key words so forgive me if I missed a discussion. But thanks in advance.

Here is the situation. I'm 26, received 2 class 6 non-violent felonies as the result of a plea bargain when I was 20. Short version of the story was dating a 17 year old girl, found out she was unfaithful and lashed out. Text message threats were the worst of it but that was good enough for convictions.

So fast forward and I'm successful, been off probation since 21, no trouble of any kind and all I want to do is go shooting with my buddies and I'm often left out. Due to the recent semi-autonomous restoration of civil rights of felons it's motivated me to finish the process and get my firearms rights restored. If anyone has done this with or without a lawyer's help I'd love to hear about it. I've printed off the petition and wanted to re-enforce my confidence before submitting.

There's multiple discrepancies, such as state police instructing to petition the circuit court of the county of my convictions (where I still live) however the petition has check boxes and the one for circuit court says it's for denial of rights review only.

Any experience good or bad would be appreciated, and if this has been discussed before I won't be offended by a link to the topic. Thanks in advance guys.
