Never been there, but I will say to watch your speed in Emporia. That town loves it's speed traps.

Friends of ours have been there several times , says it's worth the drive. Carol and I are going there during the holiday's. It's only about 30 minutes from our Dinwiddie Cabin.

AMEN! I was told "5 over they pull just to make you pay the money".

I effin' loathe "Tax Revenue Generators" in the guise of "Law Enforcement". Disgusting, you're either there to keep the peace, or be a tax man. CHOOSE, POLITICIANS!

LaCrosse had gotten that way, for a while. The town got a new mayor, and he directed the police chief to raise some revenue. They had gotten so bad, the Mecklenburg County traffic judge was throwing out cases for anybody who showed up to court.

Emporia, though, they've had that reputation for hanging speeders for a while. Back when I was driving for the carnival, the mere mention of the town would cause a flurry of curse words to fly from the mouth of any trucker.

I generally avoid Emporia; probably because of the whole speed trap thing. I grew up in LaCrosse, which is a straight shot over 58, and of all the I would go with my friends, we never went to Emporia. Avoidance, I suppose, is just programmed in, at this point.
