Gun In Vehicle At Courthouse

So I was requested for jury duty in the next month or so and obviously one can not carry in a courthouse, but is it ok to leave a gun in the vehicle on county property?

If it makes a difference, I'm in Hanover.

Leave it in the vehicle, locked up, and you're fine.

I often wonder about the same question when going to the VA. They have signs posted "No firearms on this property" which suggests the parking lot as well. I did once lock a gun in the vehicle but usually don't carry when going. Would a lock box change anything?

I think at the VA, its a no-no because the parking lot is federal property.

At a court house, you are fine if you leave it in the car. Also, some courts offer a weapons check-in run by the police. You can check it in with them so you don't have to be unarmed as you walk to and from the building, while commuting on public transportation, etc.

That said, I would call ahead of time to get there conformation as to if the courthouse you are visiting has a weapons check-in, if it is open to civilians, and the proper procedures for things such as unholstering and clearing the weapon, etc., as all of this varies per courthouse.

you're at more risk of being jailed for having it than you are for having a problem requiring the gun. Just leave it at home (secured) during your jury duty.
