ATF investigators chase 30 guns stolen from Virginia gun store

Federal agents and the Hanover County, Va., sheriff’s office are trying to track down 30 firearms that were stolen from a Virginia gun store during a burglary late Thursday night, officials said.

The guns were stolen from Hopkins Gun and Tackle in Mechanicsville about 11:50 p.m., according to officials from the ATF Washington Field Office. The burglary was the second at the store in less than a month, as a another theft happened there March 21 when multiple hand guns were taken, authorities said.

The March break-in may be connected to a series of incidents in the area near Richmond, ATF said.

ATF offered a reward for information that leads to an arrest or and conviction or recovery of the stolen weapons.

Damn. Hope they catch whoever did that.

Also, whoever owns that store should seriously upgrade their security system. Two break ins in a months time is a bit silly.

I was thinking the same thing. I have a friend of mine who owns a nice size gun store (~3000 sq ft). Every night when they close, 100% of all firearms goes into several massive vaults. Every morning, they put them back out onto the walls and shelves. No way a smash and grab is happening at his place.

That's a time consuming practice. And, clearly, that time is well spent.

I guess that there will be an insurance pay out. Were it I, I would put that payout towards safes, and other security measures.

This is why govt. agencies should operate without a hint of impropriety or agenda. My first thought was that ATF needed more guns to track...

My first thought is that this is a staged operation masterminded by the same geniuses who ran Fast and Furious (and I mean all the way to where the buck stops). Nothing like a few robberies to support claims for tighter restrictions. There is a gang that tries to flash-mob dealers at the Richmond gun show also. It would not surprise me if it were the same people.

Nah - haha - just funnin' ya. Conspiracy theory for certain, but definitely not outside the realm of possibility. Those "Gun Ban Nuts" are just crazy enough to pull something like that!

How many times have I said it? If you're not wearing a tin foil hat, you're not paying attention.

I'll buy the possibility of that conspiracy theory.

I heard about this back when it happened. I live in Mechanicsville and frequent Hopkins G&T. They have since upgraded security but I won't get into details.

Those not familiar with the area need to keep in mind that store is only a few miles from "not great areas". I'm surprised it didn't happen sooner.

I've only driven though part of town on my way to the race track. I always thought it was a quiet town. But, criminals go to where the stuff is.
