mel tappans book, Survival guns

Post by bali »

written in the 70's, it was obvious advertising for King's Gun works and Pachmayr's. :-) he thought that for shtf, you "needed" about 30 guns, to include his and hers o/u shotguns for shooting quail. He had several pages about xbows and air rifles, and not one WORD about silencers, nor about concealable rifles, nor luminous sights, nor even old passive IR night goggles. it's so important to hunt quietly why? cause of looters, but then get caught with nothing more than a xbow or pellet rifle? How stupid can you get?

today's survival "guru, James Rawls, is the same sort of bs. Spend a million $ on a ranch, have dozens of guns, blah blah.

Please expand on your thoughts. Be more constructive with your criticism.

Why don't I "need" 30 guns, specifically?
Why shouldn't my wife have her own guns, separate from my own?
What's wrong with having crossbows and airguns? They make some impressive airguns, these days. Pellets are cheap enough to stock up on, and air is plentiful, if it's the type of airgun that requires air to be pumped into it.
A book written in the 70's, when prepping was less common, I can't be too amazed that suppressors aren't mentioned. Same goes for night vision and luminous sights.

As for James Rawls, hey; if you can afford the ranch, why not buy the property? I see nothing wrong with having some land at your disposal. And, again, what's wrong with a variety of guns? If you can afford them, and have the space, why not? If nothing else, perhaps excess firearms could be bartered.
