Levin Will Vote "Trump"

Post by SHMIV »

I listen to Mark Levin, sometimes. Not long ago, he was anti-Trump. He still isn't pro-Trump, but he'll vote for him, anyway:

https://www.conservativereview.com/comm ... -for-trump

They have a link to the entire broadcast, in which he laid out his whole argument, but I didn't listen to it. I did listen to the short (2 or 3 minute) audio clip, and I watched the video clip, which was also brief. Both of those were worth the time. As I have already decided my voting preference, and the the video and short clip indicated that Levins thought process was close enough to my own, I didn't really find it necessary to listen to the entire broadcast. Unfortunately, my ears can only take but so much of Levins voice. Which is a shame, because what he says IS interesting to me.

Levin is a brilliant wordsmith, and I'm sure he spent a lot of time planning out the dance he'd have to do so his audience wouldn't totally crap on him, but the bottom line is that he painted himself into a corner by stating he was #NeverTrump, the reality of the situation put some pressure on him, and he caved. Sanders did the same thing when he ultimately endorsed HRC and it pissed off a lot of Bernie bots.

#NeverTrump*

*Weeelllllllllll, come November we might vote Trump.

Can't blame him though, the Republican party has long abandoned the basic principle of say what you're going to do and do what you say.

Sanders is spineless. He was quick to concede to Hillary, even though he was fully aware that the DNC rigged the process against him. Levin did not do the same thing as Sanders.

Mark Levin correctly realized that we were either going to end up with President Trump or President Clinton. And, he correctly concluded that continuing this Never Trump nonsense any further was likely to ensure Hillarys 3rd term.

He didn't really paint himself into a corner; I think that he really thought that there would be enough anti-Trump backlash to put forth a truly viable 3rd candidate, and if that truly viable 3rd candidate materialized, and was a good conservative, Levin would have then been prepared to back that candidate. But, the candidate didn't appear. The logical thing to do now, is vote Trump.

Levin should be on the SCOTUS.

It's one thing to be anti-Trump. It's another to be NeverTrump. Just don't say you're NeverTrump if you're not NeverTrump. Any amount of tap dancing you do to back out of your original commitment just makes you look like people can't take you for your word.

I am very mindful when I make commitments to others and thus make sure not to over-commit myself. If I say I'm going to be somewhere at a certain time, I'm there. If I say I'm going to do something, I do it. If I say I'm NeverTrump, that means I will not vote for Trump. Period. It's a basic principle that is easy to uphold, yet people squander it by saying they'll do something and then not do it which is why the phrase "I'll believe it when I see it" is so popular.

Levin is a good guy, but I am gonna hammer him on this because I expect more from him. If I wanted to hear someone say one thing and then a few months later do the opposite, there are a few hundred people on Capital Hill that I can listen to.

That's being a little unfair to Levin. He just jumped on to an existing meme. Besides, "NeverTrump" flows a little better than "We'd Prefer A Guy That's Not Trump". Also, it sounds more forceful.

If you want to hammer him for anything, get him for overestimating the scope of his reach and influence. Hammer him for being overly optimistic.

I'm just glad that he realized that he probably had just enough scope and influence to hand Hillary the presidency if he continued his path. The election is in 2 months; at this point, there are only two likely outcomes of this election.

Incidentally, I try to refrain from using the word "Never" in regard to my own actions, and if I do use the word, I try to remember to use some variation of the phrase "Likely Never". Facts change, situations change. What seems to not be possible or probable, sometimes become inevitable.

In the case of Levin, I think that he foresaw a conservative candidate emerging that would outshine Trump, and that did not happen.

His initial stance on Trump cost him my subscription to Levin TV.
