Channel 10 WSLS news Roanoke Va has been revisiting the 21 foot rule when someone draws a knife and you are armed. They have been airing this for the last couple days on 6:00 news and point out that in open space you can still get stabbed even if you get off a shot. They suggested getting anything between you and the perp such as furniture, tables if in a cafeteria, walls, etc. In their demonstration they had the officer (good guy with a gun ) back up while talking to deescalate the threat and put greater distance between himself and the perp.
