1. The “Deal” passes the Senate and House - heading to the Governor’s desk!
************************************************************

The six bills (three of each in the Senate and the House) that make up the “deal" (reciprocity/voluntary background checks at gun shows/no possession of firearms during a permanent protection order) have now cleared both the House and Senate and are on their way to Governor McAuliffe’s desk to sign. He has one week to either sign or veto the bills. Failure to sign or veto will result in a bill becoming law without his signature.

If signed, the bill becomes law on July 1. The current March 1 date, when the permits of 25 states will no longer be recognized, will most likely be rescinded. The date could also be pushed out to July 1 - same result either way.

The status of Pennsylvania recognizing Virginia permits is up in the air right now. I will advise once I hear when PA will honor VA permits once again.

If the reciprocity bill becomes law, there are many legislators to thank for it, including many who patroned the various bills to fix reciprocity. I expect we’ll be thanking them all soon.

ANTIS AND THEIR “HAIL MARY” PASS

The antis threw a “Hail Mary” pass with a press release last week saying they liked that the three bills that make up the “deal" were no longer directly tied together. The release said, that way the Governor could go back on his word to the Legislature and veto the reciprocity bill, while signing the other two bills. This underlines what I’ve been saying about the antis for as long as I’ve known them: lying and deception is perfectly acceptable because they consider themselves to be so righteous that the end justifies the means.

The antis were hoping for TWO things from that press release: 1) that the Governor would take the hint and do as they suggest, bringing him back into their fold, and 2) they were hoping to seed discontent within the pro-liberty ranks and get us to kill the “deal,” out of fear of a possible double-cross. The antis are totally helpless in stopping the “deal” and gun owners didn’t take the bait. Will McAuliffe take the bait? I don’t think so, but we’ll know in a week.
