NOTE: Because of “the deal” that is in progress to fix reciprocity, VCDL is changing the status of the bills on permanent domestic violence protection orders (SB 49 and HB 1391), as these bills need to pass and they simply codify federal law. The bills are going from “Strongly Oppose” to “Neutral.”


ACTION ITEMS

There are a few bills that we need to push:

HB 382, Delegate Fowler, allows state-agency employees to be able to store a firearm in their private vehicle while on state property. This mirrors what we did years ago for local government employees. It is part of a 3-prong approach to eventually get a law change to encourage private employers to allow their employees to store firearms in their private vehicles while at work. However, the state employees are the lower-hanging, easier to reach, fruit and that’s why we are pushing this bill currently.

HB 443, Delegate Campbell, Constitutional Carry. Constitutional Carry died in the Senate by just one vote. We will be working to get that vote if we can get this bill out of the House.

HB 1210, Delegate Filler-Corn, makes purchase of a gun safe that is $1,000 or less tax-free. This bill was referred to appropriations, where it was determined to have no fiscal impact, so it should be good to go.
