Dove Hunting Near Winchester
No forum for this topic,?? as most of us hunt, or did, anyway. I hope I am not out of bounds here, if so, just delete this. I myself haven't been able to get out much, but it would be nice to find a Dove hunting spot. In years past I have gone as far as Catlet-- My Molly passed away at 17 last summer, and it wouldn't be the same without her, but I would go anyway, rusty as I might be. She was a SUPER pup, and NEVER lost a bird. Here she is in her prime.
Of course, this was taken AFTER the hunting was over.
Anyone have a little room for an old guy?
THANKS!!

Re: VIRGINIA HUNTING
There are a few farms around here that charge about $10.00 per day to dove hunt. Where are you located ? That's a nice looking dog.

WINCHESTER, VA Molly was just the BEST! I REALLY miss her.Vahunter wrote:There are a few farms around here that charge about $10.00 per day to dove hunt. Where are you located ? That's a nice looking dog.
Here is Ginger-- She would fetch ANYTHING she thought I wanted. I lost her a month later, she was almost 14. This was taken on a camping trip just before I lost her.

Re: VIRGINIA HUNTING
That is a great looking dog, is that a german short hair?
I don't dove hunt but I do some bird hunting, I've owned GSP's for a long time, I have one laying behind me right now.
I had one back in the 80's that was solid liver, I lost her to cancer when she was only 9 she was a good dog.
The one I have now is 11 years old, she is liver and ticked and she still hunts great for her age.
Sorry you lost your dog, I've been there I miss them all.

Re: VIRGINIA HUNTING
I think a hunting forum is definitely worth exploring. I'll see if I can find a good spot to add it to the lineup.
Nice looking dogs there. It's always hard to see them go.

Yes, German Short Haired Pointers, all three. Here is Katie, she will be 14 this July- Molly was just old, but her food wasn't doing her any good. Ginger we found out had Arthritis so bad her rear hips bones were going to come out of their sockets. We had no idea she was so sick.

Re: Dove Hunting Near Winchester
Did some dove huntin in Louisiana long ago. Used to hide between those rolled up hay bales on the side of fields near a partially wooded area that would channel them over me. Did pretty good with it. They are one of the hardest if not the hardest birds to hit on the wing for sure. Lets see now, was that 25 shells per bird in the bag or 2.5, I forget... Probably 25..

Theres also another place we went to up in Berkeley Springs (this was pheasant/quail/chukar hunting) but i believe they all have doves hunts as well. Quail hollow hunts is the name of it. Real nice guy.
