Idaho Man Gets Woken Up By A Bear

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A hunter asleep in the remote Idaho wilderness woke up when he felt something tugging on his hair. Then he heard the black bear breathing.

Stephen Vouch, 29, reached behind his head and felt it was wet. He yelled when he realized a bear was biting at his head.

“He got a hold of my head, and that’s what woke me up,” the Boise resident said Wednesday, who was in the rugged area hunting bighorn sheep with friends. “That’s when I kind of freaked out. That’s when I could hear the bear breathing on me.”

The bear was just trying to the guys up to let them know about the bighorn that he'd seen in the area.

That's got to be scary as hell; waking up to a bear gnawing at your head.

That is why I always bring my dog. Bears and dog are natural enemies. The smell of the dog will keep the bears away. If a bear is stupid enough to come around, the dog will wake-up and start barking "before" the bear starts chewing on me.

I had a similar experience. I was dead asleep after a night of partying and awakened to a clawing sensation on my face. Upon gathering my senses I realized it was a ROACH. No friends around to assist and no gun available (Maryland), I had to kill it with my bare hands. To this day I have terrible nightmares. I'll never go back to that State.

How do you know that provoking hysteria isn't an amusing hobby for the bear? Out in the middle of nowhere.... gotta make your own fun!
