With a 3 day weekend, I ended up running a lot of errands. Mostly because I was doing a lot of stuff that needed doing.
I live in Prince William County (as many of you are aware) and being part of Northern VA, the people are not too warm to the idea of firearm ownership. I did get a few people grumbling amongst themselves, but I have a tendency to ignore them if I happen to notice. Its just background noise. BUT, I had 3 people have positive things they went out of their way to say.
I had one couple ask me about my weapon... model, etc., and said that they were glad that I was exercising my rights. The both agreed that rights are "use it or lose it" (to paraphrase) and commended me for being courageous enough to do so.
I also has a guy tell me that he was glad I was there and thanked me for being there. I took that as 'thank you for being a good guy with a gun'.
It funny... the more the media and diehard leftest Libs try to villainize firearms in the wake of tragedy, the more they fail. The good examples we set; they positive exposures we can provide; the good information about how preemptive laws don't work because criminals ignore the laws; the message that it was a bad person with a tool, not a bad gun... I think its getting through. I think we are winning the debate, hearts and minds of fence-sitters, and our community (which is already the majority) is continuing to grow.
Anyone else have a recent "positive response" open carry experience recently? Has someone thanked you or have you thanked someone else for being a responsible Ambassador of the 2A community?
Thanks,
Spaz

Re: OC'ed All Weekend - More Positive Responses
I CC'ed all weekend - down in South Carolina.
Son lives down there and is getting a divorce. He got the house back last Thursday - TRASHED and stripped of furniture. To make things even more unpleasant, ex-in-process's new boyfriend was reportedly playing at being Billy Badass. Ex-in-process also had tried a mild form of "SWATTING” when she told her lawyer that son "had guns and she was scared". So son had already brought all his forearms up to my house in Virginia and locked them up to take that arrow out of her quiver.
Anyway, wouldn't nothing else do but for SWMBO to go down with a truckload of furniture, her cleaning and nestbuilding services, and her own special brand of Momma's TLC. I went down because (A) she told me to, and (B) I thought I might keep my son out of jail, as he put the last boyfriend (the one who caused the divorce) in the hospital when the boyfriend picked a fight. So I just dropped my Kimber Ultra Carry II into my front pants pocket. It might have printed a few times while I was sitting at tables in restaurants, but if it did, nobody said a word. Or it might not have; baggy old man pants and a gut cover up a multitude of sins in such cases. Even SWMBO, who usually prefers that I not carry, let it be known she was glad I was “packin’”.
Aside from the fact that it’s always good to see one's progeny, it was a miserable and hellishly expensive trip. But I reckon that what daddies are for.

Gun-crazy? Me? I'd say the gun-crazy ones are the ones that don’t HAVE one.

Man... that sucks! I hope things smooth out soon.
And yes, that sounds exactly like the type of crap you should be able to defend yourself from. This is why I an a huge supporter of National Reciprocity and I am very glad we have reciprocity with the states that we do.

I CC all the time......Anymore I don't leave home without it. I do like to OC on weekends. I see more people OC now more than ever. I think more people are feeling the need to be able to protect theirselves . There's a guy here in Dinwiddie that I have seen several times, he is always OC a Very Large SS Ruger ..... I think a 44 Mag or a 454 . The next time I see him I am going to talk to him. I may even invite him to the Meet and Greet in October.

Damn dormin that sucks.
Like others, I CC all the time. After awhile, it's like tying your shoes. Just part of the walk out the door ritual...... wallet, keys, pocket knife, carry piece. So used to it now, I don't even notice it anymore.
However, lately..... as in the last few weeks, I see a LOT more people OC'n. Used to see one a week on average. Now, I see 3-4 a week.

Re: OC'ed All Weekend - More Positive Responses
I have to say, I think more people are carrying... but more so, more people are open carrying.
I see both sides of the debate when it comes to OC vs. CC. I think for me it depends on where I am going and who I will be around. Some people talk a bout a tactical advantage CC. Others feel that OC provides quicker access to the weapon and serves as a visual deterrent, like an ADT sign in the front yard.
I OC more as a statement to the Left to keep their hands off and as a warning to the bad guys that we aren't going to take their crap anymore. I would be prone to think I am not alone in those feelings.

Don't see many OC'ing here around Front Royal/Strasburg, except in gun shops. No idea how many CC. Guess people still feel safe around here. Never much in the police blotter about violent crime, mostly bad checks, domestic violence, and number one is heroin.
And yes Dormin, that's what Daddies are for. My oldest lives in a crappy part of Lynchburg. Doesn't have a firearm, just an 85 lb. pit bull, and a 50 lb. pit bill, both of whom think she walks on water. The whole neighborhood knows they're there. Makes this Daddy pretty happy.

Don't know that I've open carried more than once, really. I'd prefer not to draw unwanted attention to myself, civilian or LE. I understand the belief that OC'ing gives you quicker access to your firearm, however, practice with your CC holster does wonders for speed.

I live in the same neighborhood as Mark and on occasion see OCers. I personally CC but OTW so I am sure it makes an appearance now and then when my tee shirt rides up.

Chris, if the weather holds out on Saturday, you should come with us to the classic car cruise-in at BK in Manassas (next to the airport). Its a good time and once in awhile old-timer brings a 1941 Willys MB Jeeps from WWII with a big Ol' Browning Machine Gun mounted on it.
