Re: Elite shooting in Gainesville
I'll definitely ask as well. Nice that #13 is there in case they say something different. I do carry appendix concealed but also IWB at 4 o'clock so we'll see what happens.
I also LOVE the 100 yard cameras which are such an innovative idea.
The archery range will also be sweet, all in one facility. Too bad they don't have camping, or I would never ever need to leave the facility!

Looks to be an interesting place. I keep trying to make time to get out there and see the place. I will post back my findings.
Re: Elite shooting in Gainesville
Elite has coined a new phrase...guntry club! I live in Fredericksburg and it is well worth the 100 mile round trip.
Re: Elite shooting in Gainesville
I'm out there twice a week...
Re: Elite shooting in Gainesville
Elite Shooting Sports is pretty awesome. The staff is nice and knowledgeable. The day I went it was not crowded at all and the guy at the counter told us we could basically stay in our lane as long as we wanted, even though we only paid for an hour. Nice facility, nice ranges, good people.

Yean its pretty cool that if they aren't busy, they don't usher you off the line when your time is up.

Re: Elite shooting in Gainesville
I went to Elite for the first time this afternoon and it's probably the nicest range I've been to in the area. I haven't seen the 100 yard section yet but can't wait to try it.

Re: Elite shooting in Gainesville
Went to Elite on President's Day at around noon. The parking lot was absolutely full. Got inside and the lobby had people standing around everywhere. Walked up to the counter and lo and behold - had to sign a waiting list.
I thought to myself oh no...it's finally happened - the place has gotten so popular now there's gonna be a wait. And yet - I only ended up sitting for about 15 minutes.
Two points -
1. This was on a holiday so I should have expected it to be busy.
2. I was asking for a 25 yard lane - which made my wait shorter than those waiting for the 50 or 100.
Regardless, that's a short time to wait for a full house. I'm encouraged that on typical days this place will remain great.

Re: Elite shooting in Gainesville
I finally stopped in a few weeks ago while in that neck of the woods for work. I just stopped in to visual check it out. All i had was my carry and not enough time to actually shoot. More of a curiosity stop.
Super nice place and people. Can't wait to actually shoot there.

I'm a member there. It's a nice place and hopefully is going to progress as they start up more services. I usually shoot during the weekdays so I never have a problem getting a lane but there are more than a few others in there. I live in the South Riding area while Blue Ridge is a touch closer, it's cheaper and nicer at ESS. I hit the NRA HQ range (I used to live right up the street from that off Fox Mill Rd) from time to time but it's a further haul (but they have pretty decent ammo prices at the counter for retail).
Re: Elite shooting in Gainesville
A friend and I went to Elite Saturday afternoon. It's a nice range, clean and organized. Everyone on the staff was super friendly and helpful. We shared a lane but they were fairly open. We were in range 3 and there were still 2 or 3 open stalls when we left. From what I saw the other 50' range wasn't packed either.
I live in Gainesville so I'm less than 10 minutes away. This could get expensive...

Was there on Satuday.
Nice place... but there was someone on the other side of the range pounding rounds into the ceiling.....

I told him, "I want to pound nails!"
He said, "Best use a hammer instead."

Re: Elite shooting in Gainesville
I'm surprised. Usually the RSO's are pretty attentive and have a polite word with guys shooting from the hip towards the ceiling and the like. Seen it happen and they handled it well.
Re: Elite shooting in Gainesville
That might have been the time to seek out a RSO, IMO.
Re: Elite shooting in Gainesville
I did flag down the RSO. He looked into it right away and stopped by later to thank me. I was commenting more on the shooter. I was pleased with the promptness with Elite jumped on it.
I think the shooter put their targets up close and shot while sitting down without a thought to where the bullets were going after going through the target... a topic specifically mentioned in the mandatory safety bringing. Apparently they wheren't paying attention.?

Re: Elite shooting in Gainesville
I finally made it out there last week with a couple buddies. We went around noon on Wednesday and the place was empty! They closed the 25 yard range and the 50 yard range always had 3-4 open lanes. They also said the 100 yard was available.
I don't know about other times, but there wasn't a RSO present in the 50 yard range. One would pop-in from time to time but I think the lady working the desk was also trying to keep an eye on the range through the glass.
We were there for a good 2 hours and could have stayed longer so there was no pressure for us to leave at all.
I've always shot at NRA HQ but the indoor 100 yard range is a deciding factor for me!!

Re: Elite shooting in Gainesville
Glad it was a good time overall. I have still yet to make it out there, so hopefully I'll get to make the trip soon. I have heard nothing but good things since it's opening.bryanrheem wrote:I finally made it out there last week with a couple buddies.
I was at Sharpshooters yesterday with a buddy of mine who is interested in picking up another .45 for his CHP. The wait time was short, and the number of patrons thinned out soon after we got our lane assignments (I suppose I can thank the Dulles gun show for that).
Anywho, it was a pistol day, and in addition to shooting what we brought (1911, G19, Shield 9), he also ended up renting an XDM .45 (they did not have an XDS). He noticed right away that the front signt post is a lot bulkier versus his 1911, but he shot fairly well regardless; it's a nice weapon.
All in all it was a pretty solid range day; we both shot well enough to call it a positive.
