Concealed Carry at the D-Day Memorial in Bedford

Hello, all... I am from North Carolina, with a North Carolina concealed carry permit. I am planning on attending an event at the D-Day Memorial in Bedford later this year for the 70th anniversary. I understand that my permit is recognized in Virginia, but I don't know if the memorial allows concealed carry on the premises. Does anyone know about this? Thank you!

When we went, there were no signs stating that you cannot have firearms at the park. Also, this is a private park, not a government run park. Federal or State park limits will not apply.

The website went as far as saying to keep kids and pets under control, but nothing about weapons limits. I thing you are good.

Gun Owner - "Hi..I'm coming to see the memorial and wanted to know if its ok to carry my handgun there?"
Employee - "A what?"

I see your point. I would be a bit disapointed if there is nothing on the website, but I get there and signs are posted. That's the only reason I mentioned.

Though, the signs don't carry authority of law, so I ignore them, myself.

That was my main concern. If I was driving my own vehicle, I could lock it in the car. But I'm coming in with a group, so if I get there, and it's posted, I've got no place to put it.

The law was repealed effective July of last year. The most a property owner can do is ask me to leave. If I don't, there are many other legal issues such as trespassing, but I am not violating any state or federal gun laws.

This is not an "I think" either... I have confirmed with my attorney. Unless the establishment or property type/location is specifically mentioned in the state or federal code, "no firearms/weapons" signs do not carry the force of law in VA.

Now, is respecting the signs and requests of the property owner the moral and socially correct thing to do? Sure. That doesn't make failing to do so illegal.

No, its not a firearm charge. Its a "condition of entry" issue, like "no shirt, no shoes, no service". If the conditions of entry do not allow firearms, then you are trespassing as soon as you enter.

18.2-119. Trespass after having been forbidden to do so; penalties.

If any person without authority of law goes upon or remains upon the lands, buildings or premises of another, or any portion or area thereof, after having been forbidden to do so, either orally or in writing, by the owner, lessee, custodian, or the agent of any such person, or other person lawfully in charge thereof, or after having been forbidden to do so by a sign or signs posted by or at the direction of such persons or the agent of any such person or by the holder of any easement or other right-of-way authorized by the instrument creating such interest to post such signs on such lands, structures, premises or portion or area thereof at a place or places where it or they may be reasonably seen, or if any person, whether he is the owner, tenant or otherwise entitled to the use of such land, building or premises, goes upon, or remains upon such land, building or premises after having been prohibited from doing so by a court of competent jurisdiction by an order issued pursuant to §§ 16.1-253, 16.1-253.1, 16.1-253.4, 16.1-278.2 through 16.1-278.6, 16.1-278.8, 16.1-278.14, 16.1-278.15, 16.1-279.1, 19.2-152.8, 19.2-152.9 or § 19.2-152.10 or an ex parte order issued pursuant to § 20-103, and after having been served with such order, he shall be guilty of a Class 1 misdemeanor. This section shall not be construed to affect in any way the provisions of §§ 18.2-132 through 18.2-136.

If the sign says "no guns", then you are forbidden to enter the property with a firearm, thus you are trespassing.

So it appears, from what I'm seeing here, that there is no sign restricting CC at the Memorial.

I was at this facility 3 months ago. I always check and there were no signs restricting firearms.

Bear in mind, the d-day memorial removed Stalin's bust because someone said they did not like him.

My history book said he was an ally. I guess the new history books will be different.

So who knows how these people think.
They may say guns are bad and none were used in the war.
