Fairfax County CHP time
Anyone know what is the time that is taking to have the CHP in Fairfax County.
I Apply for mine last week and the clerk told me that they are taking 45 days, is this correct or they are tacking more??
Thanks,

Re: Fairfax County CHP time
i've heard reports that it takes every bit of 45 days there. if they take more than that and don't certify the application as a temporary permit, they're violating va statute.
nova is not what i would call gun or gun-owner friendly.
good luck.

LOL thanks so much. I hope they don't take more than the 45 days.
Re: Fairfax County CHP time
here's the citation to the relevant code:
http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504 ... d+18.2-308
near the bottom of section D:
"If the court has not issued the permit or determined that the applicant is disqualified within 45 days of the date of receipt noted on the application, the clerk shall certify on the application that the 45-day period has expired, and mail or send via electronic mail a copy of the certified application to the applicant within five business days of the expiration of the 45-day period. The certified application shall serve as a de facto permit, which shall expire 90 days after issuance, and shall be recognized as a valid concealed handgun permit when presented with a valid government-issued photo identification pursuant to subsection H, until the court issues a five-year permit or finds the applicant to be disqualified. If the applicant is found to be disqualified after the de facto permit is issued, the applicant shall surrender the de facto permit to the court and the disqualification shall be deemed a denial of the permit and a revocation of the de facto permit. If the applicant is later found by the court to be disqualified after a five-year permit has been issued, the permit shall be revoked."
the office of the chief justice of the va supreme court oversees circuit court clerks. if you have trouble with clerk at or after day 45, i wouldn't get into a pi$$ing match with clerk. there are reports that escalating upwards has gotten swift results. hope you don't have to do it, though.

Mk4 thanks so much, i hope not to go to the "extreme". Ill patiently wait until late march.
Re: Fairfax County CHP time
you're welcome. as a prospective chp holder, i'd advise you take some time to read through 18.2-308 carefully. there's a lot there, but it's well-worth the effort to be very familiar with it.
for what it's worth, i'd also recommend a good intro to cc class. there is a really good instructor that visits the forum occasionally, and may offer classes convenient to you once in a while. it's time well spent, in my opinion.
cheers.

As an aside, for Fairfax - play a game. Go demand your permit on day 46, and then see what the actual issue date was on the permit. That'll be good for a laugh.

I will take a look. Thanks.
Re: Fairfax County CHP time
The fact that I live in Fairfax County is the main reason I havent went and gotten mine. If i lived in PW or Loudoun I would have gotten it long ago. I hate everything possible about the Fairfax Co. Courthouse and Government Center...
Re: Fairfax County CHP time
Got mine, in FX, last Oct. Did it all by mail. You can download the forms and instructions. 2 tips - don't abbreviate - if your hair is brown, enter brown, not br or brn. And answer all questions - if you have no tattoos, enter none don't leave it blank. Mailed it (receipt) and got the permit in the mail ~46 days later. Don't forget the SASE. It was painless except for the long wait.
FWIW, if you want one, go for it. The more of us who have it the harder it is for them to argue against CCW.
Stay safe.

Re: Fairfax County CHP time
I just got my permit today, i called Carol Snow yesterday to see what happened with my CHP because is being 47 days and i didn't receive it, she told me that the judge has it in his desk for signing and ask me to call her in the morning to see if she got it. I called her this morning and she had received it, i ask if a can go and pick it up and she told me yes, so i went.
I was surprise with the greatest level of service that Carol Snow provide me; she was super sweet, nice and helpful. Kudos for her.
PD: Total days was 48.

Well, I'm glad you got it, and I'm glad they were nice to you, but they were still out of compliance with the statute.lapicito wrote:I just got my permit today, i called Carol Snow yesterday to see what happened with my CHP because is being 47 days and i didn't receive it, she told me that the judge has it in his desk for signing and ask me to call her in the morning to see if she got it.
