Gen. Clark: Put radicalized Americans in internment camps
Former Gen. Clark: Put radicalized Americans in internment camps
By Elizabeth Potter
Former U.S. Army General Wesley Clark suggested that "radicalized" Americans should be put in internment camps.
"In World War II, if someone supported Nazi Germany at the expense of the United States, we didn't say that was freedom of speech, we put them in a camp. They were prisoners of war," Clark said on MSNBC late last week.
Clark proposed the idea after the Chattanooga shooting in which Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez allegedly killed four marines and a sailor. The violence may have been an act of terrorism.
Clark acknowledged that there would always be young people who feel "alienated" and that members of the community will reach out and "encourage them to look at their blessings here." However, he said more needs to be done "on a national policy level."
"We've got to identify the people who are most likely to be radicalized," Clark said. "We've got to cut this off at the beginning."
"So if these people are radicalized, and they don't support the United States, and they're disloyal to the United States as a matter of principle, fine, that's their right," Clark said. "It's our right and our obligation to segregate them from the normal community for the duration of the conflict."
Clark said that allies of the U.S. including Britain, Germany and France, should consider similar measures as well.

My Thoughts:
The BIG question is, who determines who are radicalized, could it be just someone who disagrees with what the government is doing?????????

The Neo-Con fanboys will jump all over this, declaring we need to "protect ourselves from ISIS and the Muslims!" or some other trite garbage. The Liberals will wring their hands and say, "Oh no! Those Conservatives are crazy... But National Security!" and back room deals will be cut....
And then... you disagree with the Administration, GOP or DNC? Radical. Want to live off the grid? radical. Think GMOs should be labeled? Radica. Etc etc

I can't imagine anyone thinking internment camps during WWII was a good idea...

Just for the sake of argument; what would you guys suggest be done with the radical Muslims that reside within our borders?
If we let them be until they violate laws, the potential for fatalities is rather unfathomable. Could be none, could be three, could be three hundred.
My NeoCon sensibilities kind of see the logic in the idea. My Libertarian sensibilities are screaming "No! Bad idea! "

I know!!! Make radicality against the law and then it will be legal to incarcerate 'em. Totally different!SHMIV wrote:Just for the sake of argument; what would you guys suggest be done with the radical Muslims that reside within our borders?

Re: Gen. Clark: Put radicalized Americans in internment camps
As usual, what seemed to be small errors, or weak tactics, at the time they were decided have consequences never imagined. When Bush declared the "War on Terror" without accurately identifying the enemy, he set in motion the entire machinery and attitude that is now destroying our American rights while it aids the enemy.
The correct thing to have done in Sept. '01 was to say: "A radical, armed and evil faction of Islamists has declared war on and attacked the United States and other civilized countries. I am asking the Congress to declare war on these evil organizations and any states who sponsor their murderous acts. We understand that the vast majority of Muslims are peaceful, law-abiding citizens who are innocent of the crimes of these savages, and we will defend the rights of such citizens. But any member of these identified enemies who commits, conspires to commit, or incites acts of violence against the United States will be considered an unlawful enemy combatant and deal with accordingly. Because our enemies are skilled at guerilla warfare, many of them will attempt to hide among their peaceful neighbors. I must ask all peace-loving members of the Islamic faith to help us to defeat these evildoers whose acts smear their own reputations."
Had Bush had the stones to identify the enemy, all of our surveillance and other counter-terrorism actions could have been targeted for maximum effect against the enemy while preserving maximum liberty for the American people. But no....he had to show how "tolerant" and "compassionate" he was, and avoid being called a "racist". And here we are.

Re: Gen. Clark: Put radicalized Americans in internment camps
What do we do with a radical anything within our borders? You either violate the law or you don't, but until someone does I don't want the government invading someone's life. It's too much of a slippery slope and before you know it you're getting looked at just because you don't agree with the administration.
Freedom ain't easy, but I'll take a chance of something bad happening for less intrusion into my life by the gov.

That's the point. It's no longer a "radicalized anything" - it's a correctly identified enemy and everyone who doesn't fit the profile - yes, I said it - is safe.

Re: Gen. Clark: Put radicalized Americans in internment camps
I don't care if there are radical Muslims inside our border, based solely on the fact that their opinions are radical. We can not incarcerate people because of the way they think or voicing their opinions.SHMIV wrote:Just for the sake of argument; what would you guys suggest be done with the radical Muslims that reside within our borders?
Again, we can't be judging people and assuming they will commit a crime if left free. You can't incarcerate someone for things they have not done based on a hunch. The Minority Report was a great movie, but that's where the fun stops.SHMIV wrote:If we let them be until they violate laws, the potential for fatalities is rather unfathomable. Could be none, could be three, could be three hundred.
That said, that doesn't mean we completely ignore radicals. If a person is clearly anti-American based on public speaking and they are not a citizen, send them home and they can stay the hell out. If they are a citizen, as much as it disgusts me... they have rights that must be recognized... but we can monitor someone who has shown probable cause to be thought of to be a potential threat to Americans or out guests. Doing things like making threats, planing to cause harm or inciting others to plan to cause harm is illegal.
Lets examine people who are reported as a concern, see if there is grounds for concern, then charge them for any crime that actually commit. We don't have to wait for the bombs to go off, the fires to start, or the gun shots to ring out. But lets at least wait for a crime to occur.
I think that is because you love our people and this country and don't want to see anyone get hurt and would do anything to protect the US, but simultaneously know that there are limits based on a moral compass.SHMIV wrote:My NeoCon sensibilities kind of see the logic in the idea. No one can fault anyone for caring, but lets not become the bad guys because we are afraid. That is the exact thing we fight every day to maintain our Second Amendment Rights... really all of our rights. We can't say that their way of thinking is fine as long as its about possible terrorist and not my guns. Wrong is wrong.

Of course.
When I find myself debating rights over safety, rights always win in the end.
Sometimes, I like to add a little contrary to the discussion, just to see some thought processes. Profound wisdom can pop up, that way.

Where I'm coming from this was called "subversive activities against the unique party". Punishable with 25 years of hard labor in an internment camp.

LoL. True, but I have always felt that there's a reason why men don't need to see the future. Its because we have already seen the past.

Re: Gen. Clark: Put radicalized Americans in internment camps
No such thing as "radicalized mooslems/islam." There is simply islam, with those that believe it and those who act on it. Even "peaceful" mooslems believe in a one-world-islamic shariah government/caliphate, just "not right now."
The problem with the followers of the moon god allah is that islam requires good acts to outweigh bad acts to get to paradise. allah holds the scales. The neat thing is that for those who are concerned that they might not make the cut they can get instant access to paradise by being a martyr in the holy jihad. Not only do they get to paradise with 72 Virginians they get to intercede in getting allah to allow their family members into paradise too. Instant "Hero!" True believers eat this up like a banana-split from Dairy Queen.
This in turn causes "SJS" or "Sudden Jihad Syndrome," when an otherwise loving, caring, trustworthy, honest mooslem decides right now that he/she wants to guarantee paradise for him/herself and his/her family. Remember Egyptair 990? SJS. The Egyptian taxi driver at LAX? SJS. The nut that just killed the four Marines and Navy man? SJS.
You want safety from islam (which absolutely teaches this satan-loving crap in it's most basic forms)? Declare islam to be a form of societal government/law (which it is) that is completely opposed to the foundational precepts of the US and hostile to our freedoms and drive the mooslem from our shores. Since that will never happen, we will fight against islam right here in our own country until Jesus comes back. They will continually kill us and we will, hopefully, kill them back (the "swords to plowshares" thing doesn't happen until after Jesus comes back, until then keep a sword).
That's our future.
