New To VA

First i just want to say hello to everyone.

My wife and i just moved here from oklahoma. I have a oklahoma CCL but i didn't know if i have to retake my test and everything to get a VA CCL. does any one know, or can anyone shed some light on this for me? thanks!!!

I live in Campbell County and have to get my concealed carry from the Sheriff's office, all I needed was a Va drivers lic. and a copy of my DD 214 I'm a Vet.

If you were not in the military a hunters safety certificate or proof of a firearms course is required, I know that.

It's fifty dollars for five years.

Contact your local Sheriff I don't know if some counties are different.

Check here http://www.vsp.state.va.us/Firearms_Res ... ealed.shtm for information. It is a minimum of $15.00 for 5 years and can be up to $50.00 depending on the county. You apply through the clerk of the court in the county you live in. VA doesn't actually require a test, just some form of training. The website I posted give a list of what is acceptable based on state law.

So really if i have proof of taking my test in Oklahoma would that be enough for them or do i need to retest here? in Oklahoma you have to take a Firearm test and a written test, do you only take one here and which one?

We don't take a test here ,,,We do have to take an approved course that is recognized by the court as being sufficient proof of competence with a handgun... If we don;t have military or a hunters courses ,I would say that your Oklahoma test results and documentation would be sufficient but as suggested ,you will have to ask the court in the district where you are living to be sure,
The last Item on this list is the one thatI think will apply to you..

The court shall require proof that the applicant has demonstrated competence with a handgun and the applicant may demonstrate such competence by one of the following, but no applicant shall be required to submit to any additional demonstration of competence:

1.Completing any hunter education or hunter safety course approved by the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries or a similar agency of another state;
2.Completing any National Rifle Association firearms safety or training course;
3.Completing any firearms safety or training course or class available to the general public offered by a law-enforcement agency, junior college, college, or private or public institution or organization or firearms training school utilizing instructors certified by the National Rifle Association or the Department of Criminal Justice Services;
4.Completing any law-enforcement firearms safety or training course or class offered for security guards, investigators, special deputies, or any division or subdivision of law enforcement or security enforcement;
5.Presenting evidence of equivalent experience with a firearm through participation in organized shooting competition or current military service or proof of an honorable discharge from any branch of the armed services;
6.Obtaining or previously having held a license to carry a firearm in this Commonwealth or a locality thereof, unless such license has been revoked for cause;
7.Completing any firearms training or safety course or class conducted by a state-certified or National Rifle Association-certified firearms instructor;
8.Completing any governmental police agency firearms training course and qualifying to carry a firearm in the course of normal police duties; or
9.Completing any other firearms training which the court deems adequate.
