Delete browser history and you may be a criminal

Post by wittmeba »

This caught me by surprise.

A new way our government can make you a criminal.

Hhmmmmm..... Given the wide lateral application of this law, I'm guessing that we as tax payers could cause havoc... Given that certain alphabet agencies have computer policies in place to delete the browser history on closing the application....couldn't we file a class action lawsuit against those security best practices which directly contradict the Sarb-Ox regulations they're so draconianly enforcing? Security be damned...

There is automated methods and also "private browsing" offered by Firefox - what I use.

When not privately browsing I do lots of clean up after closing. I'm an old diehard DOS fan - I use batch files.

I don't mean written policies.... I meant computer policies that automate the process. Yeah, there's a lot of ways of doing it, but OS specific policies to do exactly what they're taking others to task for seems like a legal recipe for disaster...

Once you've made yourself part of a criminal investigation, then yes, destroying potential evidence in the investigations, is a crime.

I do it daily on my home, and work computer.

It was taught to me by the I.T. department to "keep resources available on your 'puter".

After doing it for almost 20 years... Kinda stuck.

I keep a copy of self loading stopdisk on a flash drive just in case, plug it in and EVERYTHING is gone down to dos. Heck to even get dos working you have to remove the cmos battery and reset the bios. But I clear my browsing everyday, and I often use incognito mode. And if I really don't want to the man watching I use Ixquick because they don't keep browsing data or ip addresses and they're Dutch so the grubbiment would be hard pressed to even get them to turn over anything.

And I'm not even wearing my paranoid cap!
