Roads were clear by 15:00 yesterday... the neighborhood paths are a bit compacted, but otherwise passable.

I got to work by 07:45, only because I couldn't get people to move outta the way.

Those poor, underprivileged kids........ no hill to sleigh ride down. tsk tsk.

We could sell y'all a small one. There's so many coal miners out of work we'd sell almost anything we've got. Take some doin' to haul it out there, though.......

I had to drive right through that massive storm system, last night. It got a little greasy, so I pulled off and waited for daylight. Sun came up, pulled out again, did another 50 miles, and pulled back off.

I hate some damn snow.

I'm glad we just got rain yesterday. Frozen snow and ice is starting to turn to slush. I actually had to turn off my heater!

I live in an all electric rental.
The power just came on after being off for two hours.
Color me happy.
Last time it happened, about 2 years ago, it was out for 3.5 days.

SWMBO and I, against my better judgment, went to Charleston, SC Friday on a family matter. Came back yesterday. We've got 18-28 inches of snow in Wise County. About 24" here in Norton, and they got 12-14" of it in one day. Then it warmed up just long enough to rain on top of it all and cap it off with freezing rain. Plus it was 23 below on the coldest night of that little patch of hell. Somewhere between 6 and 12 large buildings have collapsed, including some newer ones like a local Chevrolet-Cadillac dealership, the Coeburn Library, the Crutchfield offices and 2-3 buildings at the Airport in some of the Wise County Economic Development Parks, The Virginia Apartments, and some private homes. Roof drains are freezing and bursting and flooding buildings. Everything, even if it was plowed yesterday, is a sheet of ice this morning. I doubt I'll get back up my hill today absent heroic efforts of snow and ice removal. Rough times.

I suppose, in this part of the country, most folks don't know how much of a hoot you can have with a 4x4/4-wheeler/snowmobile on a frozen lake/pond/field, with innertubes/skis/saucers/car hoods... brings back memories!

Hints:
-If your fields are covered in frozen cowpies.... plastic doesn't tend to stand up.
-A skier on the end of the rope, has the weight to move a snowmobile around substantially.
-Car hoods are fun, due to the number of people that fit...
-Innertubes are best left to snow covered lakes.

From someone who has:
-Motorcycled among the snowdrifts.
-Bicycled on frozen lakes.
-Canoed in a snowfall.

Ya learn to take your fun where you find it....
My grandfather said, "Always use your head!".
I told him, "I want to pound nails!"
He said, "Best use a hammer instead."

From VA to Washington State, most of the way was snowy. I left with better than a 24 hour buffer, showed up right on time. Burned up that whole extra day, driving through snow!
