1. URGENT ACTION ITEM: Anti-gun bill being heard TOMORROW!
***************************************************
Tomorrow, Tuesday, February 3, Senator Favola's bill to take away gun rights for misdemeanors, SB 943, is being heard in Senate Finance. This is the bill that was initially killed, brought back to life, modified, and passed out of committee.
Besides taking away gun rights from someone for various misdemeanor convictions, the bill claims to allow for restoration of gun rights for a conviction of misdemeanor domestic violence. The trouble is that it WILL NOT restore those rights federally, based on federal case law. So, this bill has NO redeeming features and we need to kill it.
If you have not yet sent an email to your Senator to OPPOSE SB 943, please take 10 seconds to send a pre-written email now by clicking here:

2. Senate kills one pro-gun bill and passes another
***************************************************
First, the bad news: By a close vote of 18 to 20, the Senate killed Senator Garrett's SB 1132 bill allowing CHP carry on K-12 school property after hours. The House version is still alive and I'm working to see if we can amend it to grab another three votes if it gets to the Senate.
Now, the good news: SB 1137, Senator Garrett's bill to allow CHP holders to have loaded long guns in their vehicles, passed by a big margin: 25 to 13! The bill now heads over to the House.

Sort of last-minute, but I got an e-mail off to both my Senators (District 38 & 40; Carrico and Chafin) at 7:44 this AM.

Gun-crazy? Me? I'd say the gun-crazy ones are the ones that don’t HAVE one.

I wonder how that would affect hunting. Specifically.... I ran into multiple people this year who got cited for, loaded weapon in a vehicle. A couple scenarios that played out were, guys walking back to their vehicles, unloading their rifles on their tailgates....! Game Warden wrote them all tickets for loaded weapons in or about their vehicles. The game warden told them they weren't allowed within a 100yds of their vehicles with a loaded rifle. However, one of the guys in the group who was cited, unloaded his rifle probably 25' away, & wasn't cited. However, everyone who unloaded on the tailgate was cited. I ran into another guy out hunting, who had a similar story.OakRidgeStars wrote: Now, the good news: SB 1137, Senator Garrett's bill to allow CHP holders to have loaded long guns in their vehicles, passed by a big margin: 25 to 13! I have heard stories of guys getting tickets for laying a loaded rifle on the hood of their trucks as well. Both, shooting off of their hoods, AND simply laying the rifle down, not shooting.

Re: URGENT LEGISLATIVE ACTION ITEM: Anti-gun bill being heard
I've heard back from one Senator I contacted about SB 943 that "Hopefully it is going to Finance to be killed a second time.". But the other Senator is the one that is actually on the Finance Committee.
