Another example of open borders being a threat to this country imo.

Any of you guys remember me posting a while back about the danger of diseases that have been "eliminated" in this country being carried in by illegals? The point is not that I was all that perceptive when I said it. The point is that it was so foreseeable that it was damned near inevitable. Chalk up one more instance of outright sabotage of this nation by the Obamunists.

Gun-crazy? Me? I'd say the gun-crazy ones are the ones that don’t HAVE one.

Re: An open letter to the parents of an unvaccinated child
When I was a lad, measles and chicken pox were just things you almost surely had to experience on your way to growing up. To a lesser degree mumps and even whooping cough were also run-of-the-mill childhood diseases. There was almost a sense of your parents being glad you’d caught them because now you were immune. I don’t remember any dread that anybody was going to die or be permanently maimed by these diseases; nor were there any hospitalizations that I remember. That’s just the way it was. Folks just played the cards they were dealt. I do remember being packed in ice by my parents while I had chickenpox because I experienced a high fever; but even that was handled at home by my parents on advice of the family doctor (who had made a HOUSE CALL). If I was damaged nobody ever told me. Maybe that explains why I never matriculated at Harvard.
Seems to me that folks back then made less to-do about their kids having the disease than parents today do about the confounded vaccine against it. So what’s wrong with the picture, here? Were our parents uncaring and fatalistic, or are our kids hysterically overreacting as parents? I don’t know; but I’ll tell you one thing: I’m glad my parents weren’t hyper-protective like many of today’s parent seem to be. They’d have aggravated the crap out of both me and themselves. And I’d never have had a damned bit of fun.

Couldn't agree more dormin.
I too had chicken pox. However, I had the unique pleasure of getting them in high school. That was a rough couple weeks. However, sure was glad when it was over, & like you, it really was a relief to have finally caught it.
All of my children got it young, as in 6yrs old or younger. They are 24, 21, 18, & 16 today.
Funny you mention this, as I was having a conversation over lunch yesterday with my sisters. They are both RN's. I was spouting a completely uninformed opinion, with zero facts, or even actual knowledge to back up my point about..... the hyper anti-bacterial world of today, & how I believed it would cause great problems down the road when all of these germ free babies, & kids get older. To my shock..... they both agreed. Which is unusual in of itself, as we rarely agree on anything..lol but, they both said, it is already happening. People are showing up to hospitals and are unresponsive to anti-biotics, & have weak immune systems. They specifically talked about kids going to the doctors too much for common colds, etc.... & becoming immune to a lot of drugs as a result of the anti-germ way they been raised. One of my sisters joked, everyone should eat a handful of dirt in their lifetime.
Always thought it odd, when so many people that were born on the floors of living rooms, & without all the anti-bacterial everything, yet lived to see 80s, 90s, or greater. My grandmother was born in such a way, rarely took medications, & lived into her 80s. Yet, when I lived in the concrete jungle, I knew familys who were constantly at the doctors office with their kids, & were constantly feeding anti biotics, & other meds to em. Time will tell but, Im thinking overall, that can't be good..... but again, what do I know. Im just a tool belt kinda guy, who's inhaled more sawdust, & eaten more asphalt than most people will ever touch......

I got chicken pox winter quarter of my junior year of college. It's tough enough being an engineering major, let alone a very sick one. That was a hard month.Viper21 wrote:

Ouch...! That HAD to suck. I was a senior in HS, & thought that was pretty bad. Never met anyone that had it as late as you or I did. Most people I know, got em pretty young.trailrunner wrote:I got chicken pox winter quarter of my junior year of college. It's tough enough being an engineering major, let alone a very sick one. I've never had the pox or measles. If anyone needs me, I'll be hiding under my bed.
