Two men, a former Culpeper dispatcher and a former University of Virginia official, face felony charges for solicitation of a minor by computer after a three-day undercover investigations by Louisa and Albemarle county authorities.

Maj. Donnie Lowe of the Louisa Sheriff’s Office said the investigations took place in late December.

The first arrest was made on Jan. 5 in the parking lot of the Arby’s at Zions Crossroads in Louisa, Lowe said Friday.

Ray Calvin Lester, 27, of Reva in Culpeper County, is accused of trying to solicit what he thought was a 13-year-old child. Lester was carrying a .40-caliber semi-automatic handgun in a holster when he was arrested.

Lester, who is married with one child, was employed as a driver for Madison Woods Preservers and had previously worked as a dispatcher for the Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office. He also served as a volunteer with Reva Fire and Rescue and Madison County Fire and Rescue.

He is being held without bond at the Central Virginia Regional Jail in Orange County with a court date scheduled for March 5.

The second arrest was made on Wednesday at a fireplace and patio business in Charlottesville.

Jonathan A. Schnyer, 54, a co-owner of the store, was charged solicitation after authorities seized several computers, cell phones and network equipment, Lowe said.

Schnyer is a former University of Virginia associate director of institutional assessments, youth minister and a soccer referee.

He is being held without bond at the Albemarle County Regional Jail.

If you want total security, go to prison. There you're fed, clothed, given medical care and so on. The only thing lacking... is freedom.

That was really unnecessary, wasn't it? Anything to demonize guns, I guess.
