My MA Compliant Rifle

Post by 10mmSnob »

So, this rifle has a bit of history behind it:

Back in 2011, when I was faced with the prospect of moving to a state that had an AWB, I decided that I wanted to have a rifle that was legal to own, used a gas piston and was fun to shoot. I looked at a number of off the shelf rifles but decided, in the end, that I would be happier building my own.

I bought a Rock River lower at my local shop and installed a Rock River two stage trigger as well. I had to keep a fixed stock to satisfy the AWB requirements, so I ended up getting one from MAGS that had an appropriate length of pull and a generous area to get a good cheek weld.

I was fortunate enough that Adams Arms had just started selling complete gas piston uppers at the time, so I was able to get the complete upper at a pretty good price. I installed some Troy Industries flip ups and also put a PWS FSC556 compensator on the barrel to keep it legal (it’s a "compensator" and not a "flash suppressor" as far as the ATF is concerned). I kept it like this until last Christmas when I finally broke down and got a 512 and a Magpul MOE handguard.

Fun to shoot (albeit expensive with the current ammo prices), and easy to clean as well.

Thanks. Also, sometimes I wish I spent as much time reloading as I do playing those games...
