What Makes a 1911 a 1911?

Post by dorminWS »

Found this to be of some interest; particularly in view of the fact that there are some profoundly mutated "1911s" in my best friend's inventory. Of course, I reckon it's still just one dude's opinion. Anyway, I thought it worth sharing.

The pistol manufacturers that uphold and adhere to the spirit of John M. Browning's design will always produce a true 1911.

Yes, that even includes Kimber.

Anything that's different from the original trigger design, such as the series 80 firing pin plunger safety, makes it not a 1911 in my view. I feel the same way regarding external extractors.

That is why Colt refers to that design as a 1991A1, not a 1911A1.
You just have to ask yourself, is he telling you the truth based on knowledge and experience or spreading internet myths?

A Concealed Weapon Permit is nothing more than a permit to allow a LAC to wear a jacket.

I don't care much about any 1911s. My Sigs were fine, the Colt was probably the biggest waste of gun money I ever spent except when I bought a second Kel-tech PF9.

Nothing but issues.

I'll stick with my Hk's.
