2. VCDL membership meeting in Charlottesville on July 22
*********************************************************
July 22 is the next VCDL meeting at Rivanna Rifle and Pistol Club, Charlottesville, VA. It is located just 4 miles south of I-64 so it is easy to find and convenient for many in central and western Virginia.
We start the meeting with a potluck dinner and some fellowship. The main course is provided as are the drinks. We ask that those attending dinner bring a side dish or dessert to share. There is no charge for dinner, although contributions to VCDL or the VCDL-PAC are always welcome! If you are unable to bring a dish, please don't let that stop you from joining us. There is always plenty to go around!
We follow dinner with what always proves to be a lively discussion about gun rights in Virginia. Since the new laws take effect the first of July we will look at what the General Assembly passed last year and what is on the wish list for the coming legislative session.
Membership in VCDL or RRPC is NOT required to attend these meetings. In fact, we hope you will bring a friend or neighbor so that they can see for themselves what VCDL is all about. This is also an excellent opportunity to get a peek at the RRPC facilities. We once again extend our thanks to RRPC for hosting these meetings.

3. National reciprocity bill backed by several Virginia Congressmen
*********************************************************
Congressmen Robert Hurt, Randy Forbes, Morgan Griffith, and Rob Wittman are all backing HR 2959, which would require states to honor the CHPs from all other states. This bill does not attempt to set any training standards or other standards, which is a good thing. It simply says that a person carrying in another state has to abide by the other state’s laws. Fairly clean.

4. Bloomberg’s candidate survey yields information on his gun-control plans
*********************************************************
Bloomberg has decided to get into the candidate survey business. His survey tells us something about his gun-control plans.
Here’s the story:
From politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com: http://tinyurl.com/qb9qajd
-
Here are Bloomberg’s gun-control plans from the survey:
* Disarm people for **misdemeanor** charges of stalking, assault, battery, or abusing a dating partner
* Charge adults who allow a minor access to guns with a crime
* Capacity limitations on magazines
* Increased penalties for gun trafficking (something recently an anti-gun California Democrat Senator was charged with)
* Prohibit anyone on the secret terror watch list from buying guns (no due process, of course)
* Require online gun sale web sites, like armslist.com, to be an FFL, with all sales going through background checks (federal law already requires this, except for in-state sales)
* Universal background checks
*********************************************************
5. Good news: BATFE backs down on multiple long gun sales reporting
*********************************************************
As you recall, VCDL asked you to contact BATFE to oppose new requirements for gun dealers centering around multiple long gun sales.
Good work! BATFE has backed away from that proposal.

7. All 50 states will allow carry in restaurants that serve alcohol on August 1
*********************************************************
I remember all the crying by the anti-gun Delegates, Senators, and the Virginia Restaurant Association when VCDL was working to repeal the restaurant ban some years ago. They all swore there would be blood flowing freely because gun owners would get drunk and murder waiters who served them a cold steak.
All we’ve had since the repeal is crickets chirping. Who’da thought? [eye roll]
It’s been almost 6 years now and I’m still waiting for any single one of them to man-up, admit they were wrong, and apologize to gun owners for holding up the repeal for so long.

SNIP
On May 22d Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, a likely 2016 US Presidential candidate, signed into law HB 72 which, among other things, legalizes gun carry in restaurants which serve alcoholic beverages. The law applies to persons holding concealed handgun permits issued or accepted by Louisiana.
Louisiana is the last remaining state which bans gun carry in alcohol serving restaurants. . . .

8. Congressman Goodlatte tells MDA to pound sand
*********************************************************
Moms Demand Action (MDA) tried to pressure Congressman Bob Goodlatte to support universal background checks, using their recent mantra “Not One More!”
Bob Goodlatte basically told MDA that his mantra is: “Not One More - Stupid Gun Law!” (Thanks to EM Tess Ailshire for letting me steal that much better mantra!)
