Found a K98 but no numbers match

Post by 2k05gt »

I purchased a 1942 Mauser K98 but none of the numbers match, is this normal? I have not been able to find one that does.

non of the markings have been defaced but a little disappointed with the numbers.

I gave up on finding a K98 with matching numbers in what I consider to be good condition. Most of the K98s have been overhauled and rebuilt so much that the only way to find anything that matches AND is in good shape without being "lottery lucky" is to go the true estate/collector route.

Five years ago, Mitchell's still had a decent selection of guns in various grades with matching numbers. All it took was Obama's election and, like everything else gun-related, they went like hotcakes.

Ok, Cool.
I hoped that was the case, I what to get out to the range and shoot it, the previous owner never shoots his rifles he only collected
them. I could never collect without shooting them at least a couple of times.

Nice find.

My understanding is NOT too many Match, If it's a Russian Capture, Definately not. If it's an Allied Capture, More than likely not, If it's a Vet Bring back, Maybe so, But still highly doubtful, That's just what I've taken away from years of research etc...I have 3 K98's and Nothing Matches.

Even still, It's a Hellva of Rifle.
