Roanoke Rifle and Revolver Club (RRRC) will again host the annual RRRC/VCDL Defensive Pistol Shoot on Saturday, May 10, 2014.

Shooter sign-in starts at 9 AM. There is a meeting at 9:30 AM to get new shooters up to speed on the event. There is a meeting of all shooters at 10 AM, with shooting to start shortly thereafter.

There will be 6 stages. Shooters need 100 rounds of ammo. Match FEE: $20 per shooter.

A FREE HOT DOG LUNCH WILL BE SERVED!

Donated prizes are already being received and more are REQUESTED from any businesses or individuals wishing to support this annual shoot for benefit of VCDL.

FREE tickets for prizes will be given to all shooters at sign-in. A drawing for prizes will be held after the shooting ends and you must be present to win! (Prizes from previous years included scopes, ammunition, range bags, and magazines.)

In past years, ALL shooters have taken home prizes --and we expect this to happen again this year, THANKS to all of our supporters!

This event is open to the public, so bring along a friend!

"Modified IDPA" rules will apply, and information on that will be covered in the shooters meeting.

For more information, contact al@vcdl.org. The address is:

The directions to RRRC are here:

VERY IMPORTANT----PLEASE KEEP YOUR SPEED DOWN ON GUN CLUB ROAD TO 10 MPH! This keeps the dust down for the nearby neighbors of the range.

Come join us for a fun and safe shoot!

2. Richmond considering gun control legislation to allow the banning of guns at City Council meetings!
******************************************************************

After a citizen named Chris Dorsey, who often speaks against Richmond City Council policies, refused to leave the press area (he claimed he was a member of the press since he blogs and posts video of meetings), he was forcibly removed from Richmond City Hall. He was openly carrying and now some on City Council are thinking of asking the General Assembly to allow them to ban guns at their meetings. However, there is nothing that shows that Mr. Dorsey touched or used his gun to threaten anyone, so hopefully City Council will decide not to push for any changes to firearm laws.

VCDL will be watching for any bills which attempt to weaken firearm preemption laws in the next General Assembly session and will fight to defeat them.

3. Shocker: Another mass shooting in a gun-free zone
******************************************************************

A mass shooting at a Federal Express facility in Georgia. Photos in the article below, show the “No guns” sign in plain view.

Gun-free zones are very dangerous places, indeed.

4. Home schoolers go to shooting range in Richmond
******************************************************************

The teacher in the news video, Carrie Woolfolk, sent me this link and praised Dominion Shooting Range for their help in making the class session a success.

5. California: Ongoing gun confiscations
******************************************************************

California is cross referencing their gun registration database with other databases to look for anyone who is prohibited from owning a gun and then going to that person's house with a SWAT team to confiscate their guns. The people they are doing this to are not a threat to anyone. In the NRA video below they highlight the case of someone who lost her guns because she had sought a change in her medicine for an anxiety condition. She went in voluntarily to get the medicine changed and they committed her. Then, 3-months later 9 officer came to her house and confiscated her guns AND her husband’s guns.

The California Attorney General says these people are some of the "most dangerous on the streets." Really? Someone who voluntarily complies with the registration law is on par with a gang banger or a serial murderer?

And remember this: the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that CRIMINALS do NOT have to register their guns, as it would violate their 5th Amendment rights. Only the law-abiding are required to register their guns in states with registration laws.

In the video, you can meet one of these "most dangerous of criminals." You can also hear the frustration of a retired police officer who knows that going after these gun owners is a waste of everyone’s time.

The joys of gun registration.

6. VCDL member’s wallet returned thanks to his membership card
******************************************************************

Board member Bruce Jackson, who runs VCDL’s Fulfillment Center sent me this:

On Friday, April 25th, VCDL received a voicemail from someone claiming to be in Puerto Rico. The person needed a contact phone number for a VCDL member because they had found the member’s wallet and the only contact number was on the VCDL Membership card.

Since we do not give out information on our members, we called the member about the voicemail message. With the member's permission, we forwarded the email address we had on file.

Later on that day we received this response:

"Thank you very much for contacting me about my lost wallet in Puerto Rico. The gentleman that contacted you owns a beach shop in the area that I lost my wallet. Believe it or not the wallet was found completely intact including cash, credit cards, My VCDL card and concealed weapon permits for VA and FL. Incidents like this help to restore my faith in the honesty of people. If that gentleman would not have contacted you and you not contacted me, my wallet may never have been recovered! I can't thank you enough for going the extra mile to research my member number and contacting me. I will be making an extra donation to VCDL as a thank you for your dedication and persistence to go the extra mile for me."

<name withheld>

Note: The member’s wallet was lost almost 6 weeks ago.

We do not give your contact information out, but it can be in your best interest to keep us updated with your current email, phone, and address!

7. Hillary Clinton says she wants more gun control/restrictions
******************************************************************

Hillary Clinton thinks we have too many freedoms when it comes to firearms:

"While Clinton said she supports Second Amendment rights, she added that there needs to be a proper trade-off between safety and freedom, and that things have swung too far toward the latter.”
