Getting Firearms out of Police Custody

Hi folks,
I'm hoping someone here can offer some advice to me regarding a situation I'm in.

Currently I have a protective order against me, I was found not guilty of any of the charges but, the hearing for the protective order isn't for a couple weeks & since I was found not guilty I assume the ex-girlfriend may be vindictive about extending the protective order.

As you know, while you have a protective order against you, you can not possess any firearms so, I am unable to get them out of Police property. When I asked if I could have a family member pick them up, the officer laughed at me & said no. (nice, eh?) As a result I ended up speaking to his Lt. and inquired if I sold the guns could the seller then claim them; he stated that I would need to have my lawyer draw up a trust for the guns & I would also need to draw up a bill of sale. The trustee & the buyer would both have to come down & present the papers then the guns would be released.

This brings me to my question, if I sell & transfer ownership, why the heck would I need a trust & a trustee to be involved? This sounds a lot to me like the officer is blowing smoke trying to make it as difficult as possible to get the firearms out of their possession.
Does, anyone have any insight on this? I've drawn up a bill of sale already & planed to complete the transaction this week. It just makes no sense to me that the new owner could not go pick up his property.

Is it necessary to sell the firearms before the hearing?

Your best bet would be to follow your lawyer's advice.

Well that sucks man but you don't want them going into any bonded warehouse or in the hands of the NAZI'S! Depending on how many firearms you own, I would find a friend that you trust and do the four private transfers, then find an FFL that will do the rest for short money. Sure you can go the lawyer and trust way but that will end up costing you much more in the long run. I just hope everything works out for you with your fatal attraction you have there!

I've posed the questions to my lawyer who while effective isn't very communicative.
