Yet another new guy moving to VA...
PCSing from the Middle East and moving to VA (Stafford area) this summer. Selling the house in the peace loving Peoples Democratic Socialist Republic of Maryland and moving to VA. Looking forward to the move - I will not miss MD and their gooned up laws.

Welcome
. Also it is a shame how some parts of the state just ruin it for the rest, the western part of maryland is very beautiful just like with New York state.

Thanks for the warm welcome. Looking forward to getting back to the states after being away 4 years. It will be fantastic to again experience real: Internet, fresh steaks, normal driving, and not having protests/demonstrations/riots everyday.

The way things are going here, I'm beginning to wish I'd chosen Tennessee.

Because Tennessee is one of the most free states in the country when it comes to personal freedoms and also perhaps one of the least likely to turn blue in our lifetimes. I've talked on here before about considering moving to Tennessee for my golden years if Virginia keeps turning blue. This last election made it look like the blue-ing of Virginia has accelerated. East Tennessee also has some nice mountains and the TVA lakes. It's a sportsman's paradise. I live 40 miles from the Tennessee border and I've probably spent more time in Tennessee hunting and fishing than Al Gore has spent in Tennessee in his entire preppy-assed life. TN eases out South Carolina in my book because SC has no mountains to speak of and for the most part the climate is too hot and too humid. North Carolina has better geography and climate than SC but it has the same problems that Virginia does in that it is being inexorably turned blue by the "Research Triangle" plus some less-than optimum gun laws as I understand it.
