No surprise. Very disturbing really.

Folks, it's way bigger than just Alexandria... The number of articles across the US on this subject is amazing.

Well here's one that has made me rethink about leaving my job.... Saw some azzhat driving around in a black domestic vehicle with the license's plate scanners on the front.

I took the plate, and went inside to report it to the security guard because the local PD has come onto our private property to do this before, and have been asked to leave by Corporate Security (This was about 6 years ago)

Went to the guard, he looked at the plate, and said "OH! No, that's not the cops that's corporate security doing that..."

Um... what? Why?

"Oh, I don't know but they told us about it in case someone asks".

Yeah, 2 weeks later? I ain't heard "BOO" from the Corporate Security folks... and I ain't happy.

Thinking I may try local, or state guv'mint work... try for a pension or something before I get too old...er

Im not defending the big brother theory, but simply thinking outside the box here... so bare with me...

1) Anything in public view can be photographed. If I have the right to do it, then so do they... No violation of law there IMHO.

2) They *ALREADY* have your information on file.

When I was on the AP, we would visit parking lots of 2nd tier motels and run a few plates at random at slow times... You guys wouldnt believe the number of outstanding warrants that are floating around.

Im here, take my picture... IDC.

Simple Question for y'all:

If your vehicle was stolen and they located via this method, would you be so pissed? Some of these things are meant for good guys... 99% form police don't give a rats ass about your address. That can be found publicly anyways. Just like I can google any of you and find criminal records if you have a speeding ticket. It'll show me your aliases, spouse names, previous addresses, phone numbers. This is public information now... Police are out there trying to enforce laws and catch bad guys, then ya complain when they aren't doing enough.

Choose one or the other...

My vehicle? The insurance company would rather it be recovered.

My problem isn't exactly that they want to scan tags.

It's that the information can then be used to establish patterns. Such capabilities in the hands of an honest government wouldn't particularly bother me. But, that's not the type of government we currently have. And, even if we did, I wouldn't trust that we always would.

Agreed with WMV, my INSURANCE would be loving it.

However, I'm willing to accept a lil' Liberty over police convenience. Once more, I don't like them coming onto PRIVATE PROPERTY to do that... if I'm on Broad St, or Mercury Blvd. Fine, I'm driving on public streets, even okay on public schools.

But the overreaching affect is "We're ALL guilty! They just haven't proven it yet."

And there are good LEO's, and then there are BULLIES... I want them to have as LITTLE "convenience" not because of the good ones... I've seen the bullies, and I think someone pulling their card is pretty hard to do..
