RA M4A1 vs. Sig M400 question

Post by AlanM »

Anybody got a constructive comparison of the Remington Arms M4A1 as compared to the Sig Sauer M400?

My local Walmart has one of each on display. (Last I heard there was another Sig. locked up in the back.)
The RA is $977 and the Sig. is $997.
Visually I seem to like the black RA better than the ODG Sig.

Also they've got 5.56 ammo for sale at ~50 cents a round (I think, I could be wrong. I just glanced in the ammo case looking for .22).

Four boxes to be used in defense of liberty: soap, ballot, jury, ammo - use in that order.
If you aren't part of the solution, then you obviously weren't properly dissolved.

I don't, but my gut feeling from having used other of their products is that I would trust SIG to build a higher-quality product over Remington, not that either is junk though. Personally, I spend a bit more and get full mil-spec plus some additional features from the likes of Daniel Defense, etc. However, for $1k, both are probably decent options.

I'd look around AR15 or M4Carbine to find out what the real build specs on these are (i.e. where if anywhere did they cut corners) if you're intending to use it for SD/HD. Much of the higher cost of DD and similar manufacturers is in product validation testing (e.g. MPI every bolt vice just in batches). For range toys it makes no difference, but if you're going to bet your life on it, I'll settle for nothing less if I can swing the funds.

I'd get the Sig. Nice set of features for the price.

There are 19 versions of the M400 and 9 versions of the Remington M4. Which ones are we talking about?

It may not matter anyway after you read this...

As already mentioned, Sig is considered a step up over a Remington as far as brand goes. I am a huge fan of Sig. In the last 2 years I have over 10,000 rounds through my M4 and a few thousand through my P226. I have not had a single fail to fire, fail to feed or fail to eject. Actually, I have had zero failures of any kind. I would definitely count on it to save my life under any conditions.

On the other hand, Remington lost their weapons contract with DOD after less than a year and Sig still has an open-ended contract from 2009. Navy Seals carry Sigs. Just sayin'.
