Hello from Virginia Beach
Hello, I found this forum while searching for help on obtaining my concealed carry permit. I know this area probably isn't the spot for questions, but I really would like to find the answer. I am 22 years old, and about to finish up my bachelors degree in business administration at ODU. However, I started my college studies at JMU which is where I will start. Coming into college I was still dumb, and a little reckless. Well that was a recipe for disaster at that school. I quickly was brought to court on possession of marijuana. (No, I don't smoke any more, I realize it just made me a lazy bum as well as my job drug test me regularly) Any ways I was told to go to ASAP, do community service, and submit to random drug tests. I passed ASAP, and all the drug tests. I payed all my court fees etc... That happened in 2010, and while filling out the application for ccp I came the question part 8 question A2. Which I have so I checked yes. Then at the bottom I got to question L. Which asks if with in a the three year period immediately proceeding this application I have been convicted of a drug crime which I haven't since it has been close to 3 years 6 months. My question is should I even bother trying to apply for my ccp, or will I automatically be disqualified because of my possession charge?

You need to consult a lawyer. The powers that be are way too trigger happy these days. It would be money well spent.
Now is the time for all good men to get off their rusty dustys...

Damn :/ was hoping I could get a definite answer here before going to a lawyer since I have a feeling it might cost a little more then it would to just apply for my ccp. I mean I've started looking in Harrisonburg for a lawyer who could get it expunged.

Welcome to VGOF!
No reason you cannot submit an application for your CHP. Even if you are denied, which I doubt you will be, there's no harm done. No one will come and whisk you away to a fun-filled weekend in lock-up.
Here's the info from the VSP: http://www.vsp.state.va.us/Firearms.shtm

Typical turn-around here is about 35 days. Good luck.

I kinda thought about it over dinner, and started to lean towards I should just try it anyways. The worst that would happen is they say no, and I have to appeal it. Thanks for the advice both of you!
